After not reading up to date stuff for a few years, only reading classic arcs and runs etc I had the misfortune of attempting to read All New Ghost Rider. Being a fan of Ennis and Ways Ghost Rider, especially with pencils by Clayton Crain] I have to say this new GR completely sucks from story to characterization and can't see it being long till it gets cancelled.

Don;t bother with it.

Has anyone been keeping up with the new 52 stuff? I tried for a while, but didn't have enough time for it because of school. I mostly read all of the stuff that included batman, flash, and the various lanter corps. Porbably going to try to get all of what I missed together soon and try to pick it up again.

Between my last year of high School and my start in Art School I became super into American comics. I started with DC and then later went to vertigo I honestly don't remember why I started with DC but in my many readings I did eventually come across the first Spiderman/Superman story. It was the kind of story that you would expect from that era not fantastically written but amusing and entertaining. You ever read something where you vaguely remember the plot but you definitely remember how you felt about it because that's what I'm experiencing right now. I remember it having a silly story which was merely meant to create an excuse for superman and spiderman to fight each other but not much else. I wouldn't mind reading it again, though.

Are spiderman and superman your favorite comic characters? Just asking since you used them as your avatar. If I had to choose I would say Spiderman and Batman are mine. When I was a child spiderman was my favorite character but as I grew up and read more comics Batman became my favorite.

Yes they are because I feel that I am more like them than any other character and that I also relate to them more.  Plus, I prefer their stories over Batman's because I like seeing characters trying to be more human.

I don't really feel like batman is portrayed as less human. To me it's more like he has a lot of negative human traits. He's stubborn, he doesn't like to communicate, he likes to do everything himself, he uncomfortable with intimacy(by that I mean he rarely ever shows affection for anyone)and I'm pretty sure he admires superman for possessing the things he lacks. I can understand if you can't relate to the character he's one of those people who has to do everything the hard way. I really enjoy when the writers write scenes where his sidekicks are talking about him among themselves it almost makes him seem like he's old, which is funny because he's honestly ageless.

I feel like I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum I can't really relate to superman at all. It seems like he's almost too perfect. I read many of his comics but I still can't shake off the feeling that he is that way. He's like one of those people that you can't believe they are that good or are that kind.

if we wanted to have a serious debate we would have to study what it means to be human but I honestly think all superheroes posses human characteristic otherwise how could the reader find common ground with the characters. Stan Lee said in an interview once that when he wrote comics he would try to give superheroes more normal problems which is honestly why spiderman is probably such a great character.  Since most of his plots involve him balancing life and superhero work.

I can relate to Batman, but not as much as I can relate to both Superman and Spider-Man.  Plus, I never said Batman was not human is just that Spider-Man Superman are more human because they do not give in to their dark side as much as Batman does.  The darker a person is, the more his/her humanity fades away.  Spider-Man and Superman do not allow dark moments to take control of their lives.  I hope you understand what I'm saying.

When I reread your post I kinda understood more of what you are were saying and I wanted to rephrase my answer a bit but I might as well continue from here. I have to say this though I still don't agree on spiderman and superman being more human. Could you elaborate on this subject of darkness taking away humanity. Are you talking about a state of mind or are you talking about committing horrific acts? If you're stating that he's always in a negative state of mind and reacts to things negatively that doesn't really mean he's less human. If overall his stories are more bleak than superman's or spiderman's it doesn't make him less human it's merely the direction the stories go. If you remember batman of the 1950's he was a very different batman than he is now so he's very much a product of where the writers wanted to go with his character.

The whole darker a person is the more his/her humanity fades honestly reminds me of a Japanese concept where a person keeps feeling hatred(or negative thoughts) and they eventually turn into a demon. If you ever seen the grudge the woman in it dies with rage in her heart and she becomes an evil spirit who takes that rage and lashes it out at others(by killing them). You can see this idea spread across many shows and manga in japan which is why I'm familiar with the concept but I wouldn't go that far and say batman is like that but I still don't know exactly where you're coming from.

I never said Batman is like that at all.  It is really about the person's state of mind.  Batman's stories(from the one's I read) are outstanding but I prefer Spider-Man's and Superman's stories because they have a more powerful state of mind than Batman's.  Though, Batman does have very bad mental problems.  I have always believed that deep down Batman is a great man.  It just depends on Batman himself to showcase those characteristics more consistently.  Spider-Man and Superman have better lives than him because they have been more consistent in showcasing those characteristics.  Does this make better sense now?
