Hazz3r
Just had a look at the pre-stream: It's not really being released early. It just had a world-wide release and they're using British Standard Time as the marker for when it ticks over to the 24th. I'm assuming they don't want any one set of people to get a head-start (otherwise the competitive ranks will be weighed massive in the favour of people who play the game first, i.e, people east of the Atlantic) so they're letting people buy the game physically on the 23rd in the Americas so that they can start playing as soon as the servers go live just like everyone who buys the game digitally can. I'm surprised that DSPs still considering to get the game though. He's not a competitive multiplayer kind of guy. He's not going to producing the kind of content that people are looking for (high level play and strategy guides). I dunno, it feels a bit like he isn't really super interested in the game and just following the crowd. It certainly doesn't seem like he's chomping at the bit like most of the people I know are. Regarding a few comments made: People are hyped because its a competitive multiplayer game (and a good one at that) with a skill-based ranking system. What's more, it's a hybrid between a DotA-like and an FPS, which pre-Battleborn, wasn't a thing until recently. It's an entirely new experience to sink our teeth into and master. I can't really explain why it's so attractive. I mean, look at my numbers: It's like Sunday League, but I can play whenever I want, and actually get better. I can discuss tactics and reap the benefits of those discussions through further play.
onorub
Unless it's solely for multiplayer with fans, buying Overwatch is a waste of money for him. He most likely got all the views he could get from the beta gameplay.

Truth is, I AM a competitive multiplayer kind of guy when it comes to games I like. Remember, I played Street Fighter on a pro level for quite some time. I played Halo 3 hardcore for 2 months (we're talking 3-5 hours every night) until Modern Warfare came out, and then I replaced Halo with that for about 4 months...and I was pretty close to the top of the leaderboards for a while. When Team Fortress 2 was released via Orange Box, I played a TON. However, I don't think my VIEWERBASE are really into that. They prefer to either see 1. narrative-based stuff or 2. stuff I fail at/struggle with but finally overcome. I had a TON of fun playing Overwatch during beta week, but look at the viewership/stream attendance: in the 2-3 sessions I played it dramatically dropped. I was actually getting quite good with Bastion, had some kick-ass brutal streaks with Reinhardt, and was learning the ins/outs of Symmetra. If I played a few more sessions, I probably COULD pump out tutorial-style videos for these characters. The question is: would anyone care? Outside of what I stream/record for YouTube, I do NOT really game with the exception being when I Play some PvZ2 with Leanna. So buying Overwatch this week is going to be more for fan appreciation than much else, UNLESS my viewership gets a more open mind to me taking some time to "get good" at the game this week and then be able to put together some higher-level coverage of the game. But it seems that lately, whenever I do stuff like that (taking time to put together highly-edited vids) nobody really cares. So I have no idea. I WANT TO PLAY OVERWATCH a lot this week, but I also have to operate a successful business at the same time. You also have to realize: there are people already established on YouTube for doing high-level FPS coverage. I am certainly not one of those people, so I'll have MASSIVE competition trying to jump into that arena.
Hazz3r
Sorry. I meant it more as a content creator, like you say at the end, rather than as a gamer. That's something that no viewer can really tell because I only see you game when you're creating content. I think there could be a nice sweet spot where you play the game enough to create some good content (Homefront video being a good example of a video with good editing and a USP), but not to the extent of turning into an Overwatch streamer. Hell, if you like the game that much then make an honest effort to cover the game like competitive multiplayer content creators do, like Purge, The War Owl, ImmortalHD or Sacriel. I imagine a lot of content creators will be playing the PC version. Perhaps make content that's specific to things you only encounter/need on the console version of the game, if there are any. I couldn't do this shit to be honest. Too much thinking about what to play and how to handle it.
Chachamaru
i watched you for roughly 2 years. I ve never seen you do tutorial style vids even street fighter. At most its you trying combos out with or without some fans suggesting the moves. Why not try it if you could do it? If the tutorial is good ppl will eventually watch it and you might even get new viewerbase. For other style of vids if u never make it you ll never know if ppl will have interest in it so u have to try them to know.
Static Veins
Fellow Overwatch fanatic here, and I'm absolutely pumped for this week. Looking forward to both playing the game and seeing Phil and other streamers I watch get stuck in as well. Phil, if/when you feel comfortable enough to do so I would highly recommend producing something like tutorial videos for certain characters like you suggested. I understand the trepidation of "would anyone care?", but Overwatch is so unlike anything that's come before it, it's hard to gauge where the interest is going to be. As you saw from the beta, while it's a shooter, its focus on unique characters means its very similar in set up to a fighting game - and honestly videos like your old Street Fighter tutorials for characters you feel comfortable with would be a great fit, and a refreshing change from an impressions video or review. With the game shaping up to have an absolutely massive launch there is going to be a big audience for Overwatch videos, and I don't think it would hurt to maybe try a new video series like that if you enjoy the game to simply see how well viewership takes off. If you want a suggestion for where to start, based off your beta gameplay I would tell you to make a video for Symmetra; so few people know how to use her that a tutorial would be a godsend. Hell, most people don't even know how to use her turrets. You were doing really well with her in the beta; certainly well enough to make a video outlining how she works. AlucardViDracul
Well in the open beta I mostly just played as Genji, Lucio, and Dv. A. Also on some maps on defense it would be symetra.
Aceman
I'll watch. I don't care for TMNT let alone any co op Phil does.

I'm pretty interested in using Mei I main Mercy and Tracer. There's a match in Phil's beta footage where he was using Bastion and stayed on the payload for the entire match while I followed him as Mercy constantly healing. It meant Phil was basically invulnerable lol. Totally steamrolled the other team.
Static Veins
Don't know if any of you guys have ever seen a guy ROBBED live on stream before, but you will once you see my Play of the Game in this match with Phil: Stupid Mercy :( So much for that epic quad-kill.
AlucardViDracul
I had a great setup for a play of the game was Zarya and used Ult and good teamwork Hanzo unleashed his ult. And he gets play of the game when I had the entire team suspended in the air.

Was playing as Mei and froze the entire enemy team, and the Bastion that shot them gets PotG.

Phil
Sadly Mayhem brawl isn't on the PS4 version; we have Arcade right now. I guess different platforms will be getting different brawl playlists.

You should play it some time for your stream or offline.

Still doesn't take the sting out of that complete robbery though LOL Anyway, found a pretty good site that collates all of your personal Overwatch data and you can see where you rank on the worldwide leaderboards: masteroverwatch.com

Pochomex
I bought this game and I really really suck at it but I guess I've never been too good at FPS games to be honest. I'd love to see Phil do some tutorial style videos though. I'll take all the help I can get

Razgaros
Thank you very much for showing me this site, I had no idea it existed, now it motivates me to play more before ranked play next month. I'm currently 351 with Phara, 250 with Reinhart, and I just broke the 1000 stop with Hanzo. Hopefully I can get to rank 100 with ReinHart if I keep at it.
