Just watched Phil's tips video. It kinda feels more like an in-depth First Impressions video but I'm guessing it's more aimed towards people that just recently jumped into Overwatch completely cold, or even people that haven't even bought it yet.

I would love to see some more "fleshed out " tips videos, preferably focused on a single character.

Yeah I think he should probably try focusing on improving his tracer first and then make an in depth guide on her once he's mastered her. I for one don't Playou her but I'd like to see what her main strategies with her are and what teams like sync with her as well as maybe her match ups

Hey Phil, new viewer, just out of a curiosity, how come you switch heroes very sparingly? This game is built around selecting heroes to counter what the enemy team has selected, and I notice, especially when you do poorly, that you reluctantly switch heroes, I'm just curious as to why you don't switch more often.

Typically the best way to learn in any competitive situation is to stick at it and keep trying until you find a way to adapt. Yes, switching heroes is a way to adapt, but ultimately in competitive play (especially in my Street Fighter days, I learned this) you can win in ANY given situation if you learn the proper strategy. It may be a fight where you're at a disadvantage, but I'm a firm believer that in any well-balanced game you have a chance to win no matter what character you're playing as.

This could be COMPLETELY false in Overwatch but since every time I play, I'm trying to learn, I generally try to stick with the first pick.

In the case that you have made, this isn't necessarily true that you can adapt to any situation with a hero that you have selected, because in this game, the proper strategy is to swap heroes, because by picking a new hero, you effectively have selected a different strategy, and also, certain heroes quite literally cannot fill the roll that other heroes can, for example, Reaper would never be able to fill the role that Soldier 76 or McCree does, and trying to figure out different ways for him to fill that role simply will not work.

Allow me to explain.

For example, I watched a video of you the other day where you were playing Bastion on offense on Hollywood, and I noticed that things were not really going your way, you were walking through a choke point littered with defenses from the enemy team, tried to set up in turret form, and died an awful lot.

Now, obviously, in this situation, Bastion isn't going to necessarily be able break this line of defense, and this is where you need to swap your strategy, in this case your hero, to succeed. In the situation that had taken place in your videos, instead of trying to mow all the defenses down as Bastion in his turret form, the proper strategy would have been to select Reaper, Genji, or Tracer, and pick off their defenses one by one, instead of trying to figure out how to run them through as Bastion, because more often than not, it will not work, and at that point you are relying on the enemy team to just not attack you while you kill them all, which isn't a strategy, it's just luck. If let's say, you decided to pick Soldier 76 in this situation, it probably still would not work unless you had a Reinhardt protecting you, and even then, there is no guarantee.

Do you see what I mean? In many cases, swapping heroes is the strategy, because there are just certain things that certain heroes literally cannot do, if you're trying to flank as Reaper and it is obviously failing horrifically, you would swap to 76 and attempt to outgun them, and similarly if you are trying to run in behind your Reinhardt and take down their defenses, only to find out it isn't working, then that means you need to switch, because 76 just cannot do what Reaper can in any given scenario.
