Back In The Day Segment Suggesions

Phil

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I'd like your input regarding possible topics for upcoming segments of Back in the Day in my ongoing podcast!

Pretty much anything is open for discussion EXCEPT for things that would be considered the "hot buttons" i.e. politics and religion. Those things unfortunately are very polarizing and I'll address them in my own manner in due time.

Let me know what you'd like to hear me discuss about my past! Thanks!

I don't know if you talked about this in detail, but you could talk about your college days such as some positive experiences, memorable moments, negative experiences, etc. You could also talk what do you think about college in general. This is interesting to me because I'm a freshman in college and I believe this could be interesting for other people too.

Why not have a segment bringing up John Rambo....as far as best moments with him, worst moments(Or biggest regrets as far as what you haven't done) with him and some sort of update as to why both unfollowed one another on Twitter and why the disconnect happened. He was a massive part of your show back then, I think it would be a good Back in the Day segment and I think a lot of people would be interested what exactly went down straight from the horse's mouth. There has been a lot of speculation so it would be pretty cool to clear everything up. With Project 7 coming up soon, it could be a nice blast from the past(Even if it wasn't that long ago)

"back in the day" is so vague

you mean doing commentary on popular culture of the 90s for example? remembering the time the first nes console was out in the us? stories from childhood? its pretty vague.

what i would like to see is revisiting playthroughs from the past. good ones from 2009.

but it has to be done right, not just sitting on the couch talking about it, oh no, thats so bland.

there has to be at least a part of the screen that show said playthrough and some segments have to be selected and commented on, not just a random part of the playthrough

something like "here it comes, in this part i was so drunk i almost passed out, look at how the camera almost falls over" or "at this point i was so hungry i was eating and playing at the same time, you can tell in this segment"

a more professional type of "back in the day" like so many other lpers do.

i wont name names cause i think i m not allowed to.

I think it would be cool to hear you talk about how public perception of the gaming industry has changed over the years. I remember back in the day there were plenty of controversies over stuff like violence in video games that nobody really talks about anymore. Not to mention back then most people considered it a hobby for children and nothing valuable. Then when "geek" culture started becoming mainstream in the late 2000s we saw public perception of games kind of matured. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and how far video games have come as a medium of entertainment and maybe even an art form.

Why don't you talk about your "back in the day" when you were in college at the best spot in dorm because you were a scholarship winner.  You told a story about messing around with a girl whose boyfriend came looking for you and triggered a fire alarm which caused all kinds of problems SUPPOSEDLY even you serving Community Service?!? But you also said your room was at the end of a floor with bathroom and closet and you partied EVERY weekend. SO, my question is, do you not have more stories after having parties EVERY WEEKEND?!!!! Or was that one party the rager you claim it to be?!? Do you not understand so much of your bullshit is caught online forever?!?!?

As I grew up in the 80s and 90s, I find this segment to be especially boring and would not miss it if it would be dropped entirely for something fresh.

Nothing in an "average joe's" life can justify ten thousands of people to listen to it for 30 to 60 minutes. You should focus more on video games and increasing the quality for the playthroughs, not about talking something that happened before most of your fans were even born.

Well I don't mind the back in the day segments since I learn something new about Phil but I can see your point on why it should be dropped.

I like the back in the day segment very much, and I think it's really not a big deal if you don't enjoy it. It's easy for Phil to talk about stories from his past, it's interesting for some of his fans (I certainly have found it very compelling so far), and it's easily skippable if you don't care for the segment.

in fact, I would argue that I enjoy the average joe aspect. I enjoy reality and especially stories told by real people. Being told a story that really happened and reflects a person's thoughts and feelings is something I find immensely interesting, especially because these stories often contain aspects of emphasis and personal bias. I also appreciate that Phil asks his fans for input on what we might like to hear from the segment, and think that it might be a little off-topic to discuss if the segment itself is redundant, if his stories are true, or if his girlfriend would be mad at him for his frat boy misadventures.

don't get me wrong, these are all pertinent and interesting contentions, but they should be expressed on another thread maybe?

I already publicly talked about that college story, so I have no idea what you're getting at? If I've already told it, why would I tell it again?

We had probably 3-4 big parties at our dorm that semester but I've already told the story of the biggest one. The other ones paled in comparison.

"I don't like the segment" comments are literally useless as this thread is for suggestions of what to talk about, not personal opinions about the segment as a whole. People just love to post unrelated stuff lol.

Thanks for the legit suggestions. Please continue to contribute and thanks!

Where were you on the day 9/11 happened?

Day off in College, with his Mother. Went to the Mall Spoke to his old manager. Went to the movies with his mum (mom) and then was talking to various others about the tragedy before the Mall shut down in memoriam for that day. I think it was in the 9/11 memoriam episode ate the very beginning.
