Welcome to the finale of Villain Wars.  I hope you all enjoyed this section just as much as I did.

Apocalypse

Real Name: En Sabah Nur

First Appearance: Marvel Graphic Novel Vol. 1 #17 (October, 1985)

Origin: The story of Apocalypse began in 3000 BC Egypt during the First Dynasty. Born gray-skinned (although Apocalypse's skin color is sometimes depicted as flesh colored or dark skinned) and blue-lipped with natural facial markings, in the settlement of Akkaba, he was abandoned as an infant, but found by a band of desert nomads, the Sandstormers, whose leader, Baal, saw the child's potential power, and raised him as his own, naming him En Sabah Nur. He was taught in the philosophy that the tribe lives and dies by: survival of the fittest. Nur and Baal were the only Sandstormers to survive on the day that General Ozymandias with his army, destroys the Sandstormers' tribe, as they found refuge in a sacred cave before it collapsed. Baal eventually died from lack of nourishment after weeks of deprivation, but before he did, he admitted to Nur that he had believed him to be a savior foretold in ancient prophecies who was destined to overthrow the pharaoh Rama-Tut. The young Nur vowed to take revenge on the pharaoh and claim his destiny. He hid himself as a slave in Tut's city, where he has visions of Egyptian gods who revealed his great destiny. The pharaoh Rama-Tut, in actuality an earlier incarnation of Kang the Conqueror who had come back in time to locate the young Apocalypse and take him under his wing, tried to convince Nur to join him, but the young mutant savagely attacked the pharaoh only to be taken down by the conqueror's futuristic weapon. Nur survived, and tried to rescue Nephri, Ozymandias' sister, who had become attracted to the mysterious slave, but Nur was ultimately rejected by Nephri for his inhuman appearance, and she turned to her brother for protection in her panic. Heartbroken by this final rejection, En Sabah Nur's prodigious mutant abilities fully emerged in his enraged state, and he renames himself Apocalypse. Rama-Tut flees the former slave's rampage, while Nur uses his advanced technology to enslave and transform his former tormentor, Ozymandias, into a blind seer made of living stone, who would forever chronicle Apocalypse's future destinies. Fifty years later, Nur revisits Nephri, now an elderly Egyptian Queen on her deathbed, and mocks the loss of her beauty and vitality, in contrast to his own unchanged appearance, despite the passage of time.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

  • Immortality: Apocalypse's original body was immortal; even before being modified by the Celestial ship, he had lived for thousands of years.  Apocalypse can enter a coma-like state of suspended animation during which he may recover from any wounds with the assistance of his Celestial technology.
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: Apocalypse possesses superhuman strength that he can further increase by drawing upon outside energy sources; Apocalypse was shown to be strong enough to physically restrain the Hulk, while the Hulk was separated from Banner and explicitly lacked the ability to increase his strength with his rage, but also had a stronger base level. Hence, Apocalypse is above the "Class 100" limit.  
  • Superhuman Speed: He is able to speed up his reflexes and reaction time.
  • Superhuman Durability: Apocalypse is highly resistant to injury. With the Celestial modifications, this resistance to harm is amplified.
  • Teleportation: Apocalypse can teleport himself and others around vast distances across the planet. The ability seems to be artificial, linked to the Celestial technology bio-mechanically incorporated into his body, headquarters, and equipment, and so is not always available to him.
  • Psionic Manipulation: At various times Apocalypse has demonstrated differing but vast levels of mental capacity.
  • Telekinesis: Apocalypse possesses telekinetic abilities enabling him to levitate himself,[67] or others, by sheer force of will and manipulate living beings, inanimate objects, and to some extent energy, psionically.
  • Flight: Apocalypse can enable himself to fly, by either transforming his arms into wings, jets, or through telekinetic use.  He can achieve supersonic velocity in this manner.
  • Telepathy: He's also an accomplished mentalist of undefined extent. An example of his power would be him battling a weakened Jean Grey (a vastly powerful telepath in her own right) within the psyche space of Baby Nathan and win.
  • Telepathic Control & Manipulation: He's able to project his own thoughts and memories or read those of others in order to glean and impart whatever information he desires from them.
  • Cyberpathy: Thanks to his synergy with the Celestial Technology bonded to him, due in part to his paradoxical jaunt of afflicting Cable with the T.O Virus, Apocalypse gained the ability to mentally link with and control most any kind of tech and machinery he could reach out too.
  • Self-Molecular Manipulation: Apocalypse has control over the molecular structure of his own body and can alter it at will. This means he can adapt his molecular structure to adversity. Apocalypse can perform the following feats:
  • Biomorphing: Apocalypse is also a non-terrestrial metamorph, able to elongate like taffy, change into machinery, separate & reattach his own body parts, and even alter his physical appearance at will to blend in with the world around him.
  • Healing Factor: Apocalypse's control over his bodily molecules allows for his regenerative abilities.
  • Size Alteration: Apocalypse is able to change his size at will; he can increase or decrease the size of his body by taking on additional mass or ridding of it from a presumably extra-dimensional source.
  • Self-Power Bestowal:Due to En Sabah's total control over his molecular and sub-molecular structure, further bolstered by the Celestial technology augmenting him, he can also consciously or spontaneously grant himself with a wide array of new superpowers at will.
  • Celestial Energy Manipulation:Apocalypse seems to have a range of energy harnessing and projecting capabilities, either naturally derived or based on Celestial technology built into his physical frame.  He can use these metaphysical forces to accomplish a great many facilities; such as illusion & memory conjuration, matter reconstruction, healing as well as total physical restoration of damaged or destroyed bodily tissues. 
  • Energy Blasts: Apocalypse can project raw destructive energy from anywhere on his person, be it as concussive blasts from extremities or even full body energy waves.
  • Energy Absorption: He can also absorb energy from outside sources to augment both himself and his overall power.
  • Energy Transfer: In his time as Murshir, En Sabah found he could share his celestial force with other individuals to enhance their abilities. Similar to how Galactus imparts his power cosmic upon a chosen herald.
  • Super-Genius Intelligence: Apocalypse is an extraordinary genius, and has knowledge of certain areas of biology, primarily genetic engineering and mutation, and technology that are far in advance of contemporary science and technology. This was not merely a result of his exposure to alien technology, as he was able to make significant new advances beyond the alien materials to which he was exposed.
  • Omnilingual: En Sabah Nur is fluent in all of human language from across history including Celestial. 

 

Black Adam

Real Name: Teth-Adam

First Appearance: Marvel Family Vol. 1 #1 (December, 1945)

Origin/Backstory: Some five-thousand years before the time of the Marvel Family, the wizard Shazam chosen the Egyptian prince named Teth-Adam as his successor, transforming him into his champion Mighty Adam. Unlike Billy Batson however, the power corrupted Teth-Adam and he turned to evil. Deciding that he should rule the world, Mighty Adam overthrows and kills the pharaoh and assumes the throne. An angry Shazam gives his errant champion a new name — "Black Adam" — and, unable to take his powers away, banishes him to the most distant star in the universe.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

S for the Stamina of Shu: Using Shu's endurance, Black Adam can withstand and survive most types of extreme physical assaults. additionally, he does not need to eat or breathe and can survive unaided in space.

  • Superhuman Endurance: His godly metabolism provides him with far greater than human endurance in all physical activities.
  • Self-Sustenance: Sustained by the magical energies coursing through his body. He does not require air, food or water. Black Adam is immortal.

H for the Swiftness of Heru: By channeling Heru's speed, Black Adam, on earth can fly and move at speeds in excess of Mach 10 (2 miles a second) and at the speed of light in space. While not as fast as the Flash, he has been shown easily running at a speed of over Mach 500, while less powerful (Black Adam's speed was being drained by the Flash (Jay Garrick)).\

  • Superhuman Speed: Ability to sharpen his awareness and increase his temporal flow, appearing to move faster than humanly possible. He can move at incredible speeds, possibly equal to Superman. He can move fast enough to not register in the normal peripheral range of humans and seemingly vanish and disappear at will. At this speed, his mind processes information at least on a subliminal level that he is aware of his surroundings.
  • Flight: Black Adam can also mystically fly through the atmosphere through sure act of will, enabling him to soar through the atmosphere at sub-orbital levels and travel across the planet. He is immune from the effects of extreme height, such as dizziness and lightheadedness. He can travel from the earth to the moon, but he requires extra-precautionary paraphernalia for interstellar travel. Black Adam is capable of flying at light speed.

A for the Strength of Amon: Black Adam has a phenomenal level of super strength that enables him to lift 100,000 tons effortlessly, he can effortlessly bend steel, punch through walls and lift massive objects. Adam's strength is enough that he can easily defeat beings such as Captain Marvel. Black Adam is numerously referred to as the strongest metahuman on Earth. Black Adam has on more than one occasion held his own against the entire JSA. He has once fought and defeated the Great Ten, and even the entire Marvel Family( which was composed of Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, and Captain Marvel jr ). He has held his own against a group of superheroes composed of the JSA, Doom Patrol, JLA, and Teen Titans and even they couldn't seem to be able to stop him.

Z for the Wisdom of Zehuti: Black Adam has instant access to a vast level of scholarly knowledge. The wisdom of Zehuti also gives Adam clairvoyance and provides him with counsel and advice in times of need.

  • Superhuman Knowledge: Can recall knowledge and facts that he normally should not and/or would not know.
  • Clairvoyance: An uncanny awareness of his circumstances that allows him to turn disadvantages into advantages, an understanding of divine interactions with the mortal world. 
  • Omnilingual
  • Hypnosis: Can hypnotize people as well, through this power.

A for the Power of Aton: Besides fueling the magic thunderbolt that transforms Adam, it also enhances Adam's other physical abilities and allows for inter-dimensional travel. Adam can use the lightning bolt as a weapon by dodging it and allowing it to strike an opponent or target. He can channel the Power of Aton and the other Gods to increase the power of his attacks to God like levels, whilst doing this he has hurt the likes of Spectre himself. He rarely resorts to this.

  • Inter-dimensional travel: This can only be used to travel to the Rock of Eternity.
  • Electrokinesis

M for the Courage of Mehen: This aspect is partly psychological, and gives Adam superhuman amounts of inner strength to draw off of, while also making him indestructible and practically invulnerable to conventional physical injury like the great snake itself.

  • Superhuman Inner Strength: He is always supported by an innate and harmonious presence of goodwill and strength of perseverance that he never backs down from a challenge.
  • Invulnerability: If he were somehow wounded, his godly energies would enable him to recover instantly. It would take an injury of such magnitude that it dispersed a major portion of his bodily molecules to cause him a physical death. Even then, it might be possible for a god of significant power, such as Ra, Anubis, and Osiris or for a number of Egyptian gods of equal power working together to revive him.

 

  • Egyptology: Egyptian history and lore, Egyptian mythology, Egyptian magic
  • Multilingualism: Black Adam can speak several languages including ancient Egyptian, Arabic, Kahndaqi and American English.
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced):  Even without his powers, he is a considerably skilled combatant, and has repeatedly been described as a warrior who had proven himself to be highly skilled even before he was given the power of Shazam or the Egyptian Gods.
  • Leadership: His draconian methods grant him effective leadership abilities and have allowed him to rule his own country without considerable dissent.

 

Overview: We have a battle between two ancient Egyptian powerhouse.  One is a massive powerful mutant and the other is a human empowered by six magical Egyptian gods.  This battle IMO would be badass and epic.

But as always, what do you guys think is it Apocalypse or Black Adam?

I find Apocalypse's powers more interesting than the other, but unsure if he would win. I also didn't know about these two, & the art you linked is also awesome.

Welcome to Section 3 of my fantasy fights.  In this section, I will pin a villain from the Marvel Universe against a hero in the DC Universe..

Today's match up is:

Count Nefaria                                                           VS.                                               Superman

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!

Count Nefaria

Real Name: Count Luchino Nefaria

First Appearance: Avengers Vol. 1 #13 (February, 1965)

Origin and backstory: Count Luchino Nefaria was the descendant of a long line of Italian noblemen, and he inherited a vast fortune. Nefaria was also a man of unusual contradictions. He was conservative in many of his tastes and attitudes, and therefore dressed in the fashions Italian noblemen wore much earlier in the century. On the other hand, Nefaria was fascinated with technological advances, and throughout his life commissioned scientists to create inventions that were far in advance of contemporary science.  Nefaria also greatly valued his family tradition of utter respectability, yet his lust for even greater wealth and power led him to become a powerful figure in the Maggia, the notorious international crime syndicate which has its origins in southern Europe, but included no noblemen. As a young man, Nefaria quickly made himself a powerful force in the Maggia through the offering of large sums of money to established Maggiosi, the financing of major criminal operations for the Maggia in return for shares of power, the advanced weaponry his scientists devised for him, and his own immense talent for criminal strategy. Count Nefaria's wife Reneta died in childbirth. He sent his newborn daughter Giuletta to the US to be adopted by the Frost family in order to give her a 'good life,' and partially because he had preferred a male heir instead. In their care she was given the identity "Whitney Frost."  The newly formed Avengers devoted much of their time to the capturing of Maggia criminals and causing the shutdown of many profitable Maggia criminal operations. Count Nefaria decided to deal with the Avengers himself. Having planned to move to America anyway, Nefaria had his ancestral castle in Italy disassembled stone by stone and re-assembled atop the New Jersey Palisades. He announced that he was opening the castle to the public and that profits from admission fees would be donated to charity. He invited the Avengers to the opening day ceremonies. Once the Avengers were inside the castle, however, Nefaria trapped them under so-called "time transcender beams" which, in effect, put them into suspended animation. Nefaria then created life-size hologram-like images of the Avengers which he could project over great distances, which he could cause to move like living humans, and through which he could project recreations of the real Avengers’ voices. Nefaria caused the images to publicly proclaim that the Avengers were going to seize control of the United States. As a result, the real Avengers, once they were set free, found themselves in conflict with the United States Army. The Avengers finally defeated Nefaria, who confessed his guilt in framing them. The Avengers were cleared and Nefaria was publicly exposed as a criminal and deported to Italy. Many of Nefaria's criminal allies and employees deserted him and he was now no more than one among many Maggia "family" heads. In retaliation, Nefaria then unsuccessfully attempted to destroy Iron Man. Months later, Nefaria tried to hold Washington DC for ransom, although he was defeated by the X-Men and Professor X. He clashed with the X-Men again when he, together with the Ani-Men, took control of Valhalla Base and the Doomsmith computer.  The Doomsmith was capable of launching the entire nuclear arsenal of the United States.  The X-Men defeated the Ani-Men, but Nefaria escaped in a stolen Harrier Jump Jet. Thunderbird leaped onto the aircraft in an attempt to stop the Count but was killed when the plane exploded.  By now, Nefaria was virtually destitute. He decided he would have himself given superhuman powers greater than those of virtually any other human being. Nefaria formed the second Lethal Legion, consisting of the Living Laser, the original, criminal Power Man, and the Whirlwind. Nefaria then had professor Klaus Sturdy, former chief assistant to Baron Heinrich Zemo, increase these three criminals’ powers for roughly an hour, and sent them to battle their old enemies, the Avengers.  But Sturdy and his assistants had also analyzed the cellular and genetic structure of the three superhumanly powerful criminals, and used their findings to duplicate their powers in Count Nefaria, but magnified a hundredfold. Once empowered, Nefaria mortally wounded Sturdy so that he could never give equal powers to someone else.  But the dying Sturdy told Nefaria that his new powers were causing the Count to age at incredible speed, so that Nefaria would be dead in two days. (Actually, Sturdy was lying, and Nefaria lived beyond the two day limit.) Sturdy said that only he himself could control the aging process, but now he could not because he himself would be dead. Crazed with fear and rage, Nefaria attempted to destroy New York City, but was stopped and captured by the Avengers.  

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

  • Ionic Energy Form: Count Nefaria is currently a being of ionic energy similar to Wonder Man and Atlas. He has no need for air, food, or water and is virtually immortal. Most recently he has also been able to use ionic energy for simple constructs such as a lasso.  
  • Immortality
  • Regenerative Healing Factor
  • Self-Sustenance
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: Count Nefaria possesses great strength rivaling the likes of Thor and the Hulk. He is capable of lifting well in excess of 100 tons.
  • Superhuman Speed: Nefaria is able to run, leap, and fly at tremendous speeds. Nefaria has been clocked at being able to fly at speeds of 5,000 miles per hour.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Nefaria's ionic body produces considerably less lactic acids than the bodies of ordinary humans. He can exert himself at peak capacity for several days before fatigue begins to affect him.
  • Superhuman Senses: The Count's sight, smell, touch taste and hearing are all magnified to undisclosed degree's; making him acutely aware of his immediate surroundings.  Able to hear and observe movement and mechanical deployment within a heavily fortified underground facility with ease.
  • Invulnerability: Nefaria's body is incredibly resilient to physical injury. He is capable of withstanding high caliber bullets, falls from tremendous heights, tremendous concussive forces, and temperature extremes without sustaining injury.  
  • Superhuman Agility: Count Nefaria's agility and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels beyond the human body's natural limits.
  • Energy Manipulation: Like Williams, Count Nefaria has the ability to discharge copious amounts of his own Ionic force at will. Primarily he was only able to fire powerful lasers from his eyes.  After Osborn's failed Siege of Asgard, he proved he could also discharge it from his hands as well.
  • Solid Energy Constructs/Simulated Telekinesis: After his resurrection, Count Nefaria could solidify his energy into makeshift versatile Constructs, to the effect of shaping his energy around abstracts to lift and move around objects similar to telekinesis.
  • Teleportation: In later appearances, Nefaria would learn some form of a spontaneous matter transportation technique that allowed him to disappear and reappear at will.
  • Ionic Vampirism: Count Nefaria must drain other ionic beings in order to maintain his power. Theoretically, he could similarly draw strength from and gain control over gamma powered individuals due to its duality with ionic energy. He is able to influence those he has drained from. In a sense, he has become an 'ionic vampire'.
  • Ionic Conversion: Through unknown means, Count Nefaria is able to convert an Ionic Being's physical appearance to one of pure energy, as was the case with Atlas, whom had yet to undergo his transformation into pure ionokinetic energy like Simon or himself. This makes it easier for Nefaria to control those with powers similar to his own.
  • Nefaria is a criminal scientist. He is also a formidable combatant with a good deal of experience in using his powers in combat situations.

 

Superman

Real Name: Kal-El (birth name); Clark Joseph Kent (Legal/adopted name)

First Appearance: Action Comics Vol. 1 #1 (June, 1938)

Origin: Born Kal-El, the son Jor-EL and Lara Lor Van of the Planet Krypton.  Jor-El, was once a top scientist that tried to warn the counselors of the planet's impending destruction.  So, he placed his son in a rocket with coordinates set for a planet known as Earth.  When his rocket landed on Earth, he arrived in a town called Smallville, Kansas, where he would be adopted by a lovely middle aged married couple, and develop powers & abilities far beyond those of mortal men.  During his time on Earth, he was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and was able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.  He would go on to become the Earth's greatest champion known as Superman, fighter for truth, justice, and the American Way for all of mankind.  Along with Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), The Flash (Barry Allen), and Martian Manhunter, Superman formed the Justice League of America.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

  •  Kryptonian Physiology: Superman's cellular structure is much more dense, resilient, and biologically more effective than human tissue. He does not possess superhuman strength levels despite his enhanced cellular ability without his cellular structure charged with yellow solar energy. Without such charging, his physical capabilities are identical to a human of his height and weight who engages in regular physical activity. As an alien, he possesses several organs whose functions are not yet disclosed or understood, but are believed to be part of or the source of his bio-matrix force field and reclamation aura. Superman's body also stores energy actively within his bio-cellular matrix as an energy pattern that is linked to his body's electromagnetic field. This energy powers most of his electromagnetic capabilities such as flight, heat vision and other "sight"-based abilities while supplementing his physical abilities to superhuman levels. Superman has been shown to repel Darkseid's Omega Beams with his heat vision and has been shown to handle extreme heat from the Earth's Core. 
  • Solar Radiation Absorption: : As a Kryptonian, his cells function like a super battery, hyper metabolizing specific wavelengths of radiation as fuel to enable living functions and/or superhuman abilities. Different wavelengths of radiation have different effects on Superman's physiology and well being, but his cells cannot absorb or utilize all types of radiation. The wavelength of his home solar system's red sun enables his body to function on an identical level of a healthy human while the Earth's solar radiation in both its raw and filtered state through the Earth's atmosphere acts as fuel to enable all of his powers. Every time Superman uses any of his superhuman abilities, his body expends absorbed sunlight and he is capable utilizing any of them to various degrees through controlled circumstances. The solar-based radiation of a foreign blue star proved to increase his known abilities under a yellow sun to a higher degree and enabled additional powers. The existence and constant exposure to proven "healthy" radiation sources is not required for him to live and utilize his powers, but prolonged periods without exposure to them and/or utilizing his powers will require Kal-El to recharge in order to live and continue using his powers. His emotional state correlates to fluctuations in his solar storage. The more stress he is under, the more energy he retains from the sun.  Superman has also demonstrated the ability to absorb certain other forms of energy, such as the anti-sunlight of Mageddon. 
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: One of Superman's legendary powers is his god-like strength that he has shown throughout his 80+ years of publication history.  Superman possesses a truly extraordinary strength level, by no means capable of being precisely measured but certainly well within the range of being able to press or lift from millions to sextillions of tons.  Even being strong enough to break out of full Chrono-Suspension with just his strength.  Arguably the strongest being on the planet and one of the strongest beings in the Universe.  Superman's known feats of strength include lifting an enormous pyramid and flying it to Mars without any strain, physically overpowering Darkseid in combat, and moving the Earth away from the Sun with the aid of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) while Starbreaker was pushing it toward the Sun (a feat that would require quintillions tons of force).   He is so strong, he possesses the strength necessary shatter entire worlds. Superman has been chained to the endless wheels of the Mageddon machinery and his strength was used to move the gears of a weapon whose size dwarfed the entire Earth/Moon system itself.  During a fight with his Earth-Two counterpart, Kal-L, aka the Golden Age Superman, he was able to shatter the boundaries of space and time.  He can become "supercharged" and exceed his "normal" power levels, as evident when his power absorption ability ran amok which needed the Parasite to drain off his excessive power levels. 
  • Invulnerability: Superman's body was virtually invulnerable to all forms of mundane and ordinary harm. Neither bullets nor bazookas could even faze the nigh-invincible Man of Steel. He has taken a blast equivalent to a million nuclear war heads point blank and remained conscious. Currently he is even more durable than in the past. He has entered the Sun and emerged completely unharmed, he has even traveled through Krypton's Red Sun and survived physically unharmed, even though Red Solar Radiation depowers and weakens him. He has been seen to skirt the photosphere of the sun (100,000,000 degrees F). Superman has even been shown withstanding Darkseid's Omega Beams, a feat that was previously considered impossible. Superman was able to survive the nuclear destruction of the entire moon in the year 2995 when he was stuck in the future. The moon had been lined with sufficient nuclear devices to disintegrate it in one shot and Superman was in the center and survived without being hurt at all. Superman has withstood 3 particle beams, each powered by the core of a planet, fired at him. One of these planet-powered beams was a plasma beam capable of leveling a huge city a few times over entirely with a single blast. Most likely his greatest feat of durability recently, is that he was recently able to withstand the destructive power of a Sun exploding and going Nova (A result of Brainiac’s technology.) at point blank range to the planet he was on (Which was eradicated by the force of the explosion with the rest of the surrounding system.) and survived without any visible physical damage although the explosion did knock him out.  However, even excepting Superman's specific Kryptonian weaknesses, it was possible to hurt and/or daze Superman by channeling massive forces comparable to those which Superman himself could muster. Though uncommon, there has been a select host of powerful beings capable of fighting Superman on equal ground (e.g. Martian Manhunter, Galactic Golem, Bizarro, Darkseid, Mongul, Amazo, Shaggy Man, Neutron, Validus, etc.). It seemed that Superman could also increase his base durability level by bracing himself for an incoming attack; attacks that could send Superman reeling often had no noticeable effect once Superman prepared himself.  Due to years of exposure under a yellow sun, Superman's invulnerability is greater than that of the Phantom Zoners; Once, every Zoner was affected by Faora Hu-Ul's psychic bolts, while Superman was undamaged.  In addition, his immune system protects him from all toxins and diseases. The most common explanations for his invulnerability are Superman having a super-dense molecular structure and/or a supercharged bio electric "aura" which acts as an invisible "force field" around his body within a few millimeters from his skin, and presumably within his body as well. The proximity of this field to his skin means that loose clothes, for example, may be burned off of him, while cloth that is close to his body is protected by the "aura;" This phenomenon is sometimes cited as Superman's reason for wearing a skin-tight bodysuit. It is sometimes implied that he can unconsciously extend this field to an undetermined extent to protect a greater area, allowing him to carry huge objects within the Earth's atmosphere and without gravity or inertia tearing them apart around his human-sized hands.
  • Longevity: Superman can live almost indefinitely.
  • Self-Sustenance: He does not need to eat or sleep so long he has enough yellow solar energy (but is still capable of doing so), and doesn't require oxygen to breathe enabling him to travel in space and underwater unprotected.
  • Superhuman Stamina: He has the ability to maintain continuous physical actions for an undefined period. Clark has unlimited stamina if he is consistently exposed to Earth sunlight.  
  • Flight: Superman is capable of flying at supersonic speeds (over two thousand miles per second)in a planetary atmosphere and at faster-than-light speeds while in space. He once traveled from the Vega star to Earth - a distance of over 25 light years - in minutes if not seconds, meaning he is capable of flying over one million times the speed of light.  
  • Superhuman Speed:  He is capable of moving, reacting, running and flying at superhuman speeds. While not as fast as the Flash (Wally West), Superman can still fly at speeds faster than speed of sound. He can use this power to disarm opponents, catch bullets or shrapnel and cross vast distances in seconds. Thanks to his training with the Flash (Wally West). Superman has been able to use his speed very creatively when in combat and travel vast distances faster than he normally could.  Superman's speed is so great that even time manipulation has little effect on him.  He can even run and catch the Flash (Barry Allen) going at the speed of light, and capable of having a causal conversation with the Flash (Barry Allen) in attoseconds.  
  • Molecular Acceleration: Superman can vibrate his molecular structure at various levels to achieve various effects.  If he chooses, Superman can excite the molecules of whatever substance he vibrates through to critical mass causing it to explode.  He even casually caught Captain Marvel, Jr just by simply vibrating at hyper sonic speed, thus matching the speed of Mercury.  By matching the vibratory frequency, Superman exorcised a phantom planet from reality, thus saving the universe.  
  • Intangibility: Superman can vibrate his molecules to achieve an intangible state. While in an intangible state, Superman is immune to all attacks.  He can also vibrate so fast that light does not reflect off him, rendering him invisible.  
  • Phasing: Superman possesses the ability to control his speed and angular momentum at the molecular level, and control his molecular interactions to allow his body to pass through any substance.  
  • Superhuman Agility
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Although Superman relies mostly on his invulnerability, his reaction speed is beyond faster than the finest human athlete.
  • Superhuman Hearing: The ability to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. The only Earth creature who can detect sounds at the frequency he can is a blue whale (0.01-200,000 Hz). He has shown enough control to block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source/frequency. He can hear every single heartbeat, as well as the blood pumping through everyone's veins, hear every foot step, every cell phone signal as it lances through the air and more. He can identify a person by their heartbeat, or pick out a single voice in an entire world.
  • Superhuman Smell: On various occasions, Superman has demonstrated that his sense of smell is significantly enhanced to the point he can smell odors across the entire planet without any problem.
  • Super Scream:  In one instance, Superman was shown to have the ability to project a "super scream" from his vocal cords. He used this ability to cancel out the impending threat of an already exploding nuclear detonation.
  • Healing Factor: In the extreme event that Superman is harmed, either by an alien matching his own strength or other occurence, he has been shown to have the ability to heal almost instantaneously from any wound, assuming that the process is not impeded from some outside factor i.e. Kryptonite. This "healing factor" is supplemented by his stores of solar energy and also seems to be an unconscious ability, as Superman does not seem to have the ability to control when he heals and when he doesn't. Much like a human has no control over their immune system.
  • Super Breath: The ability to create hurricane force winds by blowing, and to chill his breath in order to freeze a target (this latter ability has also been called "freeze breath" and "arctic breath"). The ability to chill inhaled air is a function of Superman's great strength and invulnerability. When Superman takes air into his lungs they compress the incoming gas. When this gas expands upon exhalation, in a fashion analogous to the operation of an air conditioners compressor, the sudden increase in volume of the gas causes its temperature to drop proportionally to the size of this expansion. Superman can also breathe in large amounts of air, an ability used when dealing with and disposing things like clouds of poison gas.
  • Heat Vision: The ability to fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it with the conscious act of activating this power. Visually, the power is typically depicted as two beams of red light firing from his eyes. These beams can be made invisible, allowing Superman to work undetected. His heat vision is so powerful that they are able to power up the giant ion planet moving engines with his heat vision alone, annihilate an entire army of Doomsday clones in one blast, and has even been stated to rival the heat of a Star. The area of effect can be consciously determined by Superman, down to the microscopic level. Recent stories imply the precision is so exact it can bypass a target's outer shell (not causing damage to a person's skull for surgical purposes.
  • Super Vision: He also possess a superior sensory arrangement of microscopic, telescopic, infrared and ultraviolet visual capabilities. He is able to see the entire spectrum. STAR Laboratories has not been able to complete define how Superman has been able to utilize his powerful senses, part of the mechanism is physical, part of it is believed to be psionic in nature. Abilities include:
  • Electro-magnetic Spectrum Vision: Superman can see into all of the EM Spectrum. He can see and identify radio/television and any and all broadcast/transmitted frequencies, allowing him to avoid detection through radar or satellite monitoring methods. Superman can see the aura that every living thing generates.
  • Telescopic Vision: The ability to focus his vision to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics.
  • Microscopic Vision: The ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the sub atomic level.
  • X-Ray Vision: The ability to see through anything except lead. Opponents sometimes used lead-lined constructs in an attempt to hide things from Superman. He can see things behind a wall as if the wall were not there, or can "peel back" layer after layer of matter in his mind. Kal-El is able to focus his vision past layers of matter, literally seeing "through" them -- possibly perceiving x-rays, cosmic rays or other forms of energy invisible to normal human vision which pass through Earth's atmosphere (and solid objects) after emission from stars. Since it is passive, this ability would not generate harmful radiation in the same manner as a focused projection of hard X-rays.
  • Thermal Vision: The ability of see through the heat tracks left by a living being or object.
  • Master Combatant: Due to having superpowers all his life and constantly engaging in battle with various foes, Superman has been able to fully master them.  He has over time become an excellent hand-to-hand fighter utilizing a fighting style that directly complements his superpowers.  Superman's combat versatility allows him to adapt to any foe and beat them. Additionally, he was taught by his father Pa Kent how to defend himself by teaching him how to throw a punch, has been trained in boxing by Wildcat,  back in High School he was trained in wrestling and became an expert at it, Granny Goodness in Apokoliptian warrior training, Mongul II in Warworld gladiator combative methods, Wonder Woman in Amazonian combat, the Karate Kid in armed and unarmed combat, and even learned some advanced martial arts techniques from Batman.  
  • Genius Level Intellect: Superman, like most Kryptonians, is possessed of a higher level of intelligence than the average Earth human. Even among Kryptonians, the House of El was a lineage associated with scientific, cultural, and forensic achievement and possessed an above-average intelligence which Superman inherited.  He's able to analyze and solve problems in top speed, due to his super speed. He has shown to be able to reprogram machines and apply science to his fighting. Superman has invented a few things from time to time and has solid knowledge on Kryptonian and Earth technology alike.   
  • Total Recall: Kal-El has the ability to instantly recall events that he pays specific attention to or that hold great emotional significance to him. When he has absorbed solar energy he has the ability to solve problems with superhuman speed.
  • Mental Resistance: After an attack by the The Key involving telepathy, mind control, and illusions. Batman suggested that the League should they should train with Martian Manhunter to combat this vulnerability, for future attacks. Thus Superman built up his mental defenses with the aid of Martian Manhunter, to make his mind more resistant against such threats.
  • Indomitable Will: Superman has shown to have a powerful spirit, free of corruption and temptation. Having been raised by a kindly Kansas farmer and his wife, he was taught to protect life and help others. He is very optimistic and never gives up, even when things look bad. Superman has learned how to place mental inhibitors on his own power so that he doesn't accidentally "flex and cause the tectonic plates to shift." To him, they are the barriers that allow him to feel human enough to live a healthy life, and he only ever releases one of them when fighting a particularly powerful opponent or performing a difficult task.
  • Torquasm Vo: Torquasm Vo is a Kryptonian discipline that Superman uses sometimes. It's a means of entering the Theta State, where the user has full control of the realm, which the user can alter the surroundings however he or she fits, with the use of either their memories or use of their thoughts.  Superman first used this martial art against Dominus after escaping the Phantom Zone.  It is basically a means of focusing ones mental discipline to help fight adverse effects such as mental domination. It can be used to manipulate someone's mind, as when using this technique he's capable of dragging his opponent into the Theta State, with him.  Superman used that ability during his fight against the Eradicator. It was used to create an illusion to let Superman enter inside the Eradicator.  Superman can even run this technique through his consciousness, to find the difference between two memories of the same event, to discover which one of them is the real one; basically Superman's utilizing a lie detector when this technique is active. He can even share his findings with someone else.    
  • Torquasm Rao: Allows him to tap into his instincts and separate himself from his body.  Makes him able to prevent others from manipulating his mind and allows him to fight on the astral plane.  This discipline not only empowers Superman, but also allows him to heal both his body and spirit from any harmful threats.  When entering the astral plane also known as the Rao State, Superman can enter different dimensions when using this technique like Lois Lane did, regarding the use of his astral form, if he so chooses to.
  • Horu-Kanu: The deadliest form of physical combat on Krypton.  A martial art that involves taking advantage the body's pressure points. Superman learned this martial art in private and utilized it when fighting Batman who was filled with Green Kryptonite energy, Maxima, Tempest, Mongul II, and Ultraman.  
  • Meditation: During his 20s, Superman traveled around to see the world and learn more about his powers. After first meeting with his "then" lover Terri Chung, they traveled to Bhutran. There, Superman learned of their customs and the secrets they had to offer, which involved meditation and yoga techniques; taught to him by Terri's father the former Rhana Bhutra.  Superman even learned some mediation techniques that allows him to slow his heart rate down to mimic death and one to slow his metabolism down to allow him into a meditative state; all of which he learned while studying in Bhutran and from Batman.  His training in Bhutran was most effective when his powers went out of control, due to excessive amounts of energy coursing through his body, at the time.  He even resorted to meditation when creating the world of Metropia.  His meditation practice was definitely useful when he first used Torquasm Vo to enter the Theta State, when fighting against Dominus.  
  • Acrobatics: There have been times when Superman has lost his powers and had render to rely on his own nimbleness, agility, balance, and body coordination to help him get by and survive.
  • Chi Manipulation:  Superman learned the art of Bagua under the instruction of I-Ching. He learned how to manipulate his Chi or Qi to help him gain a better maintenance of his powers. Superman recommended to Supergirl that she should train with I-Ching to help her regain proper control over her powers.
  • Swordsmanship: Considering Superman's reputation in hand-to-hand combat and his use of his powers. Superman is actually quite the skilled swordsman, capable of fighting on par with the Space Pirate Captain Freelance in a duel.  Fighting alongside a magic based Justice League from a parallel future and even fighting Doomsday for a period of time.  He fought on par with Hon-Ur when he briefly clashed blades with him, when he was powerless.  He even slayed a Troll while protecting Jimmy Olsen, when he realized it wasn't even alive due to it not breathing and having no pulse.  
  • Firearms: Despite all of Superman's great power and fighting skill, he has at times utilized guns. Whether weakened in power, in acts of desperation or training purposes. Kal, if he needs to, will resort to the use of a firearm.  
  • Investigation: Both as a superhero and as a journalist, Superman is an expert at gathering evidence from all kinds of sources. Even Batman has given Superman props for his deductive reasoning skills.  Green Arrow also refers to both him and Batman as the Hardy Boys.  
  • Journalism: Clark is one of the best reporters on the Daily Planet, rivaled only by his wife Lois Lane. He gained a Pulitzer Prize at least in one occasion.  
  • Leadership: Superman has proven many times over his ability to command respect and inspire others with his charisma, ardor, and idealism. He often serves as the primus inter pares of the Justice League.  
  • Ventriloquism: Used to practice in high school.
  • Multilingualism: English, Kryptonian, and Spanish.  Superman also speaks Japanese.
  • Limiters: Over the course of his life and acquisition of power under a yellow sun, Superman has learned how to place mental inhibitors on his own power. These "limiters" as he calls them, are used to keep his power in check so that he doesn't accidentally "flex and cause the tectonic plates to shift". Though it is known that he has placed several of these limiters within his own mind, it is unknown how many and just how powerful he would be if he decided to release them all. To him, they are the barriers that allow him to be human enough to live a normal life, and he only ever releases one of them when fighting a particularly powerful opponent or performing a predominately difficult task.

 

Battle Breakdown: We have one of the Avengers' most powerful foes fighting the legend himself, Superman.  IMO this is a cool match up.  However, while I usually stay unbiased in my fights, I am going to have to say that Superman will win in the end due to his experiences of fighting beings that comparable to him in strength and his overall superior fighting skills.

What? I didn't know that, (and a lot of it as well), he has a compressor in his lungs. But why would he have lungs in the first place, he doesn't need oxygen or air at all, right? Unless it's a vestigial organ or something. I'm confused...

Superman does have lungs.  Granted he really doesn't need to breathe, but he still does have lungs.

Yeah, I just thought that it was weird because he apparently has no biological need for them, (that I know of), unless like I said is just vestigial, or their bodies are enhanced/manipulated through biotechnology.

Hela

Real Name: Hela

First appearance: Journey into Mystery Vol. 1 #102 (March, 1964)

Backstory: Hela was allegedly daughter of the Asgardian god of mischief, Loki, and the sorceress giantess Angerboda.   he three Asgardian goddesses of fate, the Norns, are said to have warned the Asgardian gods that Hela would prove to be a great danger to them. Odin, ruler of Asgard, decreed that Hela would become goddess and ruler of the spirits of the dead on the day of her maturity. These spirits were in the other-dimensional realms of Hel and Niffleheim, two more of the Nine Worlds, both of which Hela ruled. However, Odin himself directly ruled the souls of Asgardians and their human worshippers who died in battle as heroes, and had the palace of Valhalla built in a distant section of Asgard to house them. 

Here are her powers, abilities, skills, and weapon:

  • Asgardian Physiology: Hela possesses the conventional superhuman abilities of an Asgardian woman, as well as certain special abilities that pertain to her role as a goddess of death.
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: Hela possesses vast superhuman strength considerably greater than most Asgardians. She has proven capable of standing toe-to-toe with Thor. Hence, she is capable of lifting well in excess of 100 tons.  
  • Superhuman Speed: Hela is capable of running and moving at superhuman speeds, achieving a peak of potentially 115 mph. 
  • Superhuman Stamina: Hela's body produces considerably less fatigue toxins than the bodies of human beings, or most other Asgardians for that matter, during physical activity. As a result, Hela possesses almost limitless physical stamina.  
  • Superhuman Durability: Hela's body is considerably more resistant to physical injury than the bodies of human beings, and most other Asgardians. Hela is capable of withstanding great impact forces, temperature and pressure extremes, high caliber bullets, and powerful energy blasts without sustaining injury.
  • Immortality: Hela, unlike the rest of Asgardian Gods is immortal and doesn't age beyond her prime. This is due to her being the Goddess of Death who controls life. She can rapidly age people, even someone as powerful as Thor. She can also grant immortality to other beings like Rugga, the Storm Giant, who kidnapped Sif and brought her to Hela so that she can grant him immortality.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite her body's high resistance to injury, it is possible to injure her. However, Hela's body is capable of healing itself with high levels of superhuman speed and efficiency. The extent of Hela's healing abilities is considerably beyond that the the vast majority of Asgardians, able to reconstitute herself even following molecular disintegration.
  • Magic Manipulation:  Hela is capable of manipulating great quantities of Asgardian magic for numerous purposes, such as limitless astral projection, firing deadly bolts of energy from her hands that could kill an immortal, levitation, time-travel and the creation of illusions.  She is even capable of channeling the energy through her hand and use them to strike a powerful blow that can rend even the strongest Asgardian flesh. She refers to this as the "Hand of Glory".
  • Astral Projection: Hela is able to travel about in her astral form, possessing the same powers of death as her physical form has. Because of her Asgardian metabolism, she does not have any limitation on the amount of time she can spend out of her physical form, unlike mortal astral projectionists. 
  • Control Over Life and Death: As the Asgardian Goddess of Death, Hela holds the power of life and death over the gods of Asgard. Death for an Asgardian is somewhat different from death for an Earth human being. In both cases, the corporeal body ceases all functions and activities, but whereas mortal spirits flee the physical form at the moment of death, the spirits of gods remain in their bodies until the death goddess draws them out and dispatches them to her realms. These spirits (or astral selves) remain integral for eternity and reside, apparently forever, in the other-dimensional realms of Hel and Niflheim, where they take on a quasi-physical existence, under Hela's control. The souls of those who die heroically in battle remain within their bodies and are accompanied by Odin's Valkyries into Valhalla, where the deceased heroes lead a new physical existence. These dead heroes are known as the Einherjar. Hela too accompanies these heroes on their journey to Valhalla, but she has no right to govern them. Although Hela is usually content to wait until an Asgardian is on the verge of succumbing to fatal wounds before she touches him or her and draws the spirit from his or her body, she can also kill perfectly healthy Asgardians with her touch if she chooses. Although Hela's touch of death is effective even when she touches someone with her gloved hand, she must contact that person's bare skin for him or her to die. However, Hela can also project mystic bolts that will cause their target to age or die, even if they strike a portion of the target's body that is covered by clothing. While Hela's touch is also fatal to mortals, she does not generally leave the dimension of Asgard or have much traffic with human lives. The souls of immortals are her province, nor those of mortals.
  • Allspeak: Thanks to the Allspeak, she can communicate in all of the languages of the Nine Realms, Earth's dialects, and various alien languages.
  • Although she rarely does so, Hela is a formidable hand to hand combatant, as well as having great proficiency with swordsmanship. She is particularly skillful at using her powers in combat situations.

Weapon

  • Nightsword: Hela is often armed with her Nightsword, and is a proficient swordswoman. She battled Pluto proficiently with the Nightsword pitted against his enchanted Midnight Axe until Pluto brought demons in to attack Hela in the course of their duel.  The sword is strong enough to injure someone as resilient as Gladiator (Kallark).

 

Wonder Woman

Real Name: Diana of Themyscira

First Appearance: All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #8 (October, 1941)

Origin: Diana is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta, the first child born on Paradise Island in the three thousand year history that the immortal Amazons lived there. The Amazons had been created around 1200 B.C. when the Greek goddesses drew forth the souls of all women who had been murdered by men and placed them on the island. One soul was held back from creation, the one that would be born as Diana. That soul originally belonged to the unborn daughter of the first woman murdered by a man (whom Hippolyta was the reincarnation of). In the late 20th Century, Hippolyta was instructed to mold some clay from the shores of Paradise Island into the form of a baby girl. Six members of the Greek Pantheon then bonded the soul to the clay, giving it life. Each of the six also granted Diana a gift: Demeter, great strength; Athena, wisdom and courage; Artemis, a hunter's heart and a communion with animals; Aphrodite, beauty and a loving heart; Hestia, sisterhood with fire; Hermes, speed and the power of flight. Diana grew up surrounded by a legion of sisters and mothers. When she was a young woman, the gods decreed that the Amazons must send an emissary into Man's World. Queen Hippolyta ordered a contest to be held, but forbade Diana from participating. Diana disobeyed and did so anyway in disguise, easily winning the contest and being named the Amazons' champion. She was given a uniform fashioned from the standard of someone who had visited the island a few decades earlier.  Diana did not keep her identity a secret, and she was not at first a "super-heroine". Indeed, her character was in many ways that of a babe in the woods, innocent and without guile. Diana spoke only Themyscirian, a combination of classical Greek and Turkish. She had to learn English when she arrived in America, rather than knowing the language intuitively. Nonetheless, Diana was trained as a warrior and had no compunction against using deadly force when called for. She often dealt with war, injustice, inequality, death, and conflicts involving the Olympian Gods.  Before embarking on her mission, Diana was given the Lasso of Truth, forged by Hephaestus himself. She was also given the Sandals of Hermes, which allowed her to instantly traverse great distances in seconds. Diana's mission was one of peace, but part of it initially involved defeating a mad plot by Ares to destroy the world. She ventured into the world by starting at Boston. There she met a Harvard professor, Dr. Julia Kapatelis, and her daughter, Vanessa Kapatelis, as well as the Air Force Officers Steve Trevor and Etta Candy. Diana stayed with Julia and Vanessa and over the course of a month or two, she learned to speak English. She was attacked at their home by Decay, one of Ares' minions, and after a battle that spilled out into the streets of Boston she first came to the public's eye and was given the name Wonder Woman. Upon discovering Ares' plan (one that involved causing a nuclear holocaust), Diana managed to foil it, first battling his sons Phobos and Deimos before finally convincing him the error of his ways using her Lasso. After defeating the God of War, Diana returned home for healing at the hands of Poseidon himself.

Here are her powers, abilities, skills, and weapons:

  • Divine Empowerment: Directly after being sculpted from clay, several Olympian gods granted attributes to Diana.
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: Granted by Demeter (Goddess of the Earth). Diana is literally as strong as the Earth because of her link to the planet granted to her by Demeter. She is said to be 'stronger than Hercules'. It is obvious her strength is magical in nature, given her height and weight. Wonder Woman is known to be one of the strongest beings in the DC Universe, generally shown to be in the same class as Superman himself and to physically over-match other beings such as Supergirl without too much effort. She is regarded as the strongest female hero in the DC Universe.  She has godlike strength and also invulnerability due to her aegis-made shield magic bracelets. With her superhuman strength and superior fighting abilities, she has proven to be able to take on any other member of the Justice League in combat. In the events of Justice League: League of One, she was able to defeat even the other six main members through a combination of planning and power in order to save their lives and the world. She is strong enough to lift weights well into the megaton range and even pull 1/3 of the earth.
  • Superhuman Durability: Granted by Demeter (Goddess of the Earth). Diana, possesses a high resistance to damage and magical attacks. Her resistance to injury is not quite as great as any of the above mentioned metahumans. However, due to her vast threshold for pain and her amazon ability to heal at a superhuman rate, this easily makes up for the difference. She has withstood considerable bludgeoning damage in the form of hand to hand combat with metahuman opponents such as powerful as Superman and Captain Marvel. She has considerable resistance to human weaponries, though this is not absolute; she has a particular vulnerability to advanced bladed weapons, such as swords and spears, and projectiles, such as bullets and arrows. Bullets can cause minor to moderate injury, but not life threatening. Also, her ability to heal rapidly, makes up for this set back. She can easily survive under extreme pressures, cold, and heat. Wonder Woman has been able to traverse space, undergo submergence into lava, and withstand a direct explosion from a nuclear warhead unharmed. Born of the clay of Themyscira, and given life and divine powers by the gods themselves, Diana has heightened resistance to magical attacks. She is highly experienced in battling foes who use sorcery as a weapon. As a divine creation herself, she is far-less susceptible to manipulation by magic and mental attack than many of her fellow heroes.
  • Flight: Granted by Hermes (God of Messengers). Wonder Woman is capable of unassisted flight through an as yet unknown but probably magical means or through telekinesis. Her aerial maneuverability is not as developed as aerial combatants such as Hawkman or the Black Condor, but she is still a relatively capable aerial combatant as well. Wonder Woman is capable of flying at speeds of greater than escape velocity. She has been clocked at Mach 5 (hyper-sonic) traveling in sustained flight and can go much faster if need be.
  • Superhuman Speed: Granted by Hermes (God of Messengers). She is able to think, react and move at superhuman speeds. Her top speed is high hypersonic (It's lightspeed in some instances but it may not be consistent) and according to Flash, she can easily keep up with him but it should be noted that the Flash does not usually go at his nearly max speed which is lightspeed, unless the situation is severe and calls for it.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Granted by Hermes (God of Messengers). Wonder Woman possesses reflex abilities similar to speedsters, such as Jesse Quick and Max Mercury, and has been noted as being faster than Superman's. She is able to keep up with Jesse Quick with ease, referencing her patron deity of speed and messenger of the gods, Hermes, as the source of her powers. Wonder Woman's reflexes are far beyond the limitations of the finest human athletes. She has been able to react to a barrage of gunfire from multiple opponents at once unharmed.
  • Superhuman Agility: Wonder Woman's agility is far beyond that of even an Olympic-level athlete, as is her balance and coordination.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Wonder Woman can last a great deal of time in any fight and with virtually anyone. She has held her own in combat with foes as powerful as a Doomsday clone. She doesn't tire out, as her body produces no lactic acids in her muscles.
  • Enhanced Healing Factor:  Granted by Demeter (Goddess of Earth). Like the Earth, Diana is constantly renewing herself, allowing her to quickly heal mild to moderate injuries at an amazing rate. Her normal regenerative abilities allow her to recover from injury within seconds to minutes. She possesses an incredible immunity from poisons, toxins, as well as disease. In rare cases where she was gravely injured or where another has managed to severely poison her, Diana showed the ability to physically merge with the Earth, causing whatever injuries or poisons to be expelled from her body as she regains shape.
  • Oneness with Fire: Granted by Hestia (Goddess of the Hearth). Apparently making her a focus of truth.
  • Empathy: Granted by Athena. (Goddess of Wisdom) "The Sight of Athena" apparently grants her increased insight. (For example, Diana can often detects others' emotions, and is now so fully immune to Doctor Psycho's illusions that she usually is not even aware of what illusions he is attempting to project. Apparently most forms of mind control will not work on her either). She can also detect other people's emotions. Even other high-level telepaths would be unable to read her mind or attack her in such a manner.
  • Animal Rapport:  Granted by Artemis (Goddess of the Hunt). Ability to communicate with all forms of animals (including dinosaurs) and her presence alone can bring a raging beast to a calm standstill.
  • Enhanced Senses: Granted by Artemis (Goddess of the Hunt). Eyesight, hearing, taste, touch and smell.
  • Superhuman Sight: She also possess the "Hunters Eye" which allows her to always hit her mark. She can see to far greater distances than any normal human. Wonder Woman was briefly blinded, then had her sight restored by Athena. Since then, she has had the sight of Athena.
  • Dimensional Teleportation: On occasion, Wonder Woman can literally leave the planet through meditation. She did this to rescue Artemis when she was in hell, and has even conversed with the Greek Gods on occasion.
  • Longevity: Diana possesses a longer lifespan than regular humans though far from Immortality. As seen she is at 90's but has an appearance of a young woman.
  • Master Combatant: Diana is the finest warrior ever born among the Amazons of Themyscira. She is a master of armed and unarmed combat, proficient with nearly every weapon ever made (especially the bow and the javelin) and the exotic martial arts styles of the Amazons. Batman once remarked that Wonder Woman is the best melee fighter in the world.
  • Master Tactician and Strategist: Diana is also an accomplished strategist and tactician, trained in the arts of leadership, persuasion and diplomacy, and possesses a great deal of courage as well. She is a gifted leader.
  • Multilingual:  Diana has exhibited heightened proficiency with languages, being able to speak her native Themysciran, Ancient and Modern Greek, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Mandarin Chinese (she expressed "difficulty" with the tones of Cantonese during an interview with Lois Lane), Russian and Hindi. Plus, through precise muscle control, she can mimic other peoples voices for short conversations (telephone). It is more difficult, (though it can be done), for her to mimic a man's voice than another woman's voice.
  • Wisdom: Granted by Athena (Goddess of Wisdom). Diana possesses great wisdom and intelligence, though the degree varies from author to author. She is among the smartest and wisest members of the Justice League of America, along with the Martian Manhunter and Batman.
  • Aviation:  Expert pilot. Seen flying the Invisible Jet with ease.
  • Expert Lasso Wielder: Can use the Lasso of Truth as an offensive and defensive weapon.

Weapons/Paraphernalia

  • Bracelets of Submission:  Modeled after the shackles the Amazons were once enslaved with. The gauntlets were formed from the remains of Zeus's legendary Aegis shield, and were re-forged for her use by Hephaestus. Diana's superhuman reflexes enable her to use the gauntlets to easily deflect projectiles (such as bullets) and powerful energy blasts from beings such as Ares and Darkseid. She is even fast enough to protect herself from multi-vector attacks. At close-range the gauntlets block blades, weapons and punches. They are even able to deflect Darkseid's energy attacks.  When crossed, the gauntlets generate a remnant of the Aegis itself, forming an impenetrable barrier just in front of them which allows Diana to protect herself and those behind her from area attacks. They are also capable of channeling Zeus' holy lightning when struck together.
  • Lasso of Truth: The Lasso of Truth is her signature weapon.  It has restrained beings as powerful as Superman, Captain Marvel, and the gods Ares and Hades.  It is absolutely unbreakable as it cannot be broken, snapped or cut.  She can also control the lasso to a certain degree with telepathy.  The Lasso burns with a magical aura called the Fires of Hestia, forcing anyone within the Lasso's confines to be truthful.  The Fires can restore lost memories, dispel illusions, renew the wielder's body, protect those encircled by it from magical and nonmagical attacks, cure insanity (in some cases), and implant commands that must then be obeyed.
  • Golden Tiara: Doubles as a throwing weapon, used for long-distance attack or defense.  It is razor-edged and can cut through most substances.
  • Diana occasionally uses additional weaponry in formal battle, such as ceremonial golden armor complete with golden wings, war-skirt and chest-plate, and a golden helmet in the shape of an Eagle's head. Her deadliest piece of battle-gear is a magically forged sword (again a gift from Hephaestus), so sharp that it can "carve the electrons off an atom".

 

Battle Breakdown:  This would make a hell of a fight IMO.  For those of you who are not too familiar with WW, she has fought Gods before such as Darkseid and Ares and has lived to talk about it.  IMO this fight would push both of these women to their limits.

Thanos

Real Name: Thanos

First Appearance: Iron Man Vol. 1 #56 (February, 1973)

Origin: Thanos was one of the last sons of A'Lars, progenitor of the second colony of Eternals on Titan, and Sui-San, the last survivor of the original settlement of Eternals in this moon. He was born with purple, hide-like skin and a massive body due to his Deviant Syndrome. The very first time his mother laid her eyes on the baby, she was driven mad and tried to kill him.  Despite his unusual appearance and introvert nature, Thanos was well accepted by his peers. He was a mild-mannered intellectual that dreamed of becoming a scientist like his neglectful father. However, signs of his true nature started to creep up early on. For instance, he liked to draw dead animals despite vomiting at the prospect of performing a dissection. Thanos' life reached a tipping point when a mysterious girl convinced him to explore with his friends a dangerous cave to overcome his fear of killing. A cave-in separated Thanos from his friends for three days, during which he refused to even think of murdering the inoffensive creatures that lurked underground for sustenance. When he found his friends, they had been killed by the animals living in the caves. After Thanos returned to society, the same girl convinced him to go back to the cave and slaughter the critters in revenge.  By the time he was a teenager, Thanos excelled academically and learned faster than he was taught. He began to vivisect creatures in secret in order to gain knowledge while searching for an answer to his abnormal genetic makeup. The girl that had helped him overcome his fear of killing became his confidante. Thanos' search for answers escalated into killing fellow Titanians, carrying out the first murders in the history of Titan. Despite declaring that his first two murders were going to be the last, Thanos eventually killed again, and found out that he enjoyed it. Thanos fell in love with his confidante, who enabled and further motivated and Thanos' actions, but she rejected his advances.  After murdering seventeen people in total, Thanos killed Sui-San in hopes of finding in her body the key to who he was, both spiritually and physically.  He left Titan afterwards, swore off killing, and found a menial job with a pirate crew with whom he explored the cosmos. As years went by, Thanos became detached and unemotional. In many different planets, he would find a partner and mate with them in hopes to feel something again, to no avail. He always abandoned them and the babies they bore him. Thanos eventually came into conflict with his captain in the pirate crew due to his disinclination for murdering. In an act of complete instinct, Thanos slaughtered him, and subsequently seized control of his crew.  Thanos decided to embrace his murdering nature, and returned to Titan in secret. He was approached by his old confidante and tried to court her again. She demanded that Thanos proved he belonged only to her, so he embarked on a journey to kill all of his offspring, and razed every planet they stumbled upon for the sake of his love for death. Additionally, Thanos experimented on his own body, granting himself a variety of powers. Thanos' confidante became his companion, and eventually declared that for her to love Thanos, he would have to become a god, a supreme destroyer above all else. After Thanos discovered that none in his crew could see her, she revealed her true nature, that she was the physical manifestation of Death itself. Driven mad by this revelation, Thanos gave in to Death's promises of romance and used his fleet to ravage Titan.  Once his armada bombarded Titan, Thanos personally descended to murder the survivors. He was confronted by the elder A'Lars, who managed to make Thanos doubt whether Death was actually by his side or if he was simply demented. Thanos spared his father solely so he could watch his son defile the cosmos and prove his sanity. Death finally kissed Thanos, but he found her embrace to be cold. Without his thirst quenched, Thanos continued his journey of destruction.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

  • Superhuman Intelligence: Possibly Thanos' most dangerous ability is his mind. Thanos' intellect is dedicated to enhancing his own powers and to the annihilation of all life. Thanos is a genius in virtually all known fields of advanced science and has created technology far exceeding contemporary Earth science. He has also shown to quickly adapt to new battle situations, as shown in his fight with the Champion of the Universe, who outclassed him physically and whom he beat by dancing around him, blasting him with energy attacks and tricking him into destroying the planet they fought on. Thanos has remarked that, compared to himself, Bruce Banner's intelligence is only great for human standards.

  • Vast Superhuman Strength: Thanos possesses vast superhuman strength the full limits of which aren't known. Death has increased his strength beyond their original limits to levels rivaling or surpassing those of the physically strongest Eternals. He has proven capable of fighting Thor even when he had the Power Gem. His strength is so vast that he has been able to defeat the likes of the Silver Surfer, punch away an attacking Hulk,  physically subduing with ease Beta Ray Bill and Ronan the Accuser (as well as casually breaking apart the latter's Universal Weapon), and, most impressively, wrestle with the mighty Tyrant, although only by being additionally empowered by an external power source. He was also able to beat in melee fight the Hulk power-enhanced Annihilus.  Thanos can also augment his strength with his cosmic energy when needed.

  • Superhuman Speed: Despite his massive muscular bulk, Thanos is capable of running and moving at speeds greater than the finest human athlete.

  • Superhuman Stamina: Thanos' musculature produces almost no fatigue toxins during physical activity. As a result, he has nearly superhuman stamina in all physical activities.

  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Before his "death", Thanos possessed an impressive degree of resistance to physical injury, even compared to other Eternals. After his resurrection, Death increased his ability to resist injury to a much greater degree and he is nigh invulnerable. He has withstood at point blank range planet-destroying attacks without any harm. He has withstood blasts from the Silver Surfer unharmed. He withstood a battering from an enraged, Power Gem-wielding Thor with nothing but a bloody nose. He possesses such an incredible resistance to injury that he has been shown to survive point-blank blasts from Odin and Galactus. Thanos has withstood three full screams from Black Bolt, one at point-blank range, without any significant damage.  He survived being subjected to an artificial singularity.  He also withstood being stabbed on the chest by Wolverine's Adamantium claws without exhibiting any discomfort. 

  • Immortality: Thanos, like all Eternals, is immortal in the sense that he is immune to all known diseases and infections and is immune to the effects of aging. Thanos was formerly banned by Death itself from entering its realm, rendering him truly immortal. No matter the severity of any injury, Thanos was unable to die and completely recovered. This ban has since been lifted.

  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his extraordinary durability, it is possible to injure Thanos. Like all Eternals, however, Thanos is capable of regenerating damaged tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than a human being. His healing powers aren't as developed as those of some Eternals. Some Eternals are capable of regenerating any destroyed tissue. Given the circumstances of his death at the hands of Drax the Destroyer during the Annihilation event, Thanos is unable to regenerate missing organs. 

  • Superhuman Agility: Despite his great size, Thanos' agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. His agility is roughly equal to that of the average Eternal.

  • Superhuman Reflexes: Thanos' reaction time is enhanced to a level that is beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. Like his agility, his reflexes are about average for an Eternal.

  • Energy Manipulation & Control: Thanos has displayed great versatility in the use of his energy projection abilities. He has demonstrated the ability to project pure energy as a concussive force, "magnetic" energy, infrared heat-beams from his eyes, and disruptor beams, unilaterally striking separate targets with his optic blasts as well as use his mental link to his techno-mystical chair to form vastly powerful energy shields, barriers, and force-fields. The exact extent of Thanos' energy projection abilities are unknown, but his blasts have been capable of knocking down the likes of Thor and The Hulk. He was also able to slightly damage Galactus' armor and blast the Devourer of Worlds off his feet. By collaborating with the In-Betweener they together released the latter from his prison created by Master Order and Lord Chaos.  It has been speculated that the nature of Thanos' cosmic energy reserve may be quasi-mystical in nature.

  • Telepathy: Thanos possesses psionic abilities. His mind is invulnerable to most forms of psychic attack. Thanos has demonstrated the ability to successfully defend himself against psychic assaults from Moondragon and Mantis. He also drove one of the Priests of Pama insane with a gesture, made the Hulk attack his fellow Avengers, and forced Conner Sims (the Anti-Man) to destroy his surroundings.  Thanos also once attempted to destroy the mind of Drax the Destroyer with a powerful psychic attack called the Time-Mind Sync Warp, that plunges the victim's mind into a psychedelic dimension of insanity, causing death or incapacitation. 

  • Matter Manipulation & Control: Thanos has demonstrated some ability to manipulate matter on the atomic level, similarly to other Earthborn Eternals. On one occasion, he turned the Skrull, Skragg into stone.

  • Curse Casting: Thanos seems to be at least partially skilled in magic, evidence being him cursing Deadpool to be unable to die.

  • Flight: His fight with Star-Lord wielding the Mandalay Gem, Thanos was shown to fly self-propelled.  Whether he recently acquired this ability or if he uses technical equipment for it hasn't been revealed yet.

  • Teleportation: Thanos can teleport himself across unknown distances through his link with his techno-mystical transport chair. When stranded in space with Terraxia, he could neither fly, nor teleport to his rescue, presumably because his chair got destroyed in the struggle before.

  • Super-Genius Intelligence: Thanos has a brilliant scientific mind rivaling the best in the Universe.

  • Skilled Unarmed Combatant: Although he typically avoids physical combat, Thanos is a highly formidable hand to hand combatant, having been trained in the Arts of War on Titan.  He is particularly skillful at using a combination of his physical and energy manipulative abilities during combat.  He is also a skilled swordsman, being able to overwhelm a Mjolnir-wielding Silver Surfer. 

  • Mystical Knowledge: He also has great knowledge of arcane and mystical lore.

 

Orion

Real Name: Orion

First Appearance: New Gods Vol. 1 #1 (March, 1971)

Origin: On the far side of known existence there is a place known as the "Fourth World." It is there that two opposing planets exist; New Genesis, a place of beauty, splendor, light and happiness, and Apokolips, a place of hardship, squalor, filth and disease. It was in the dreary darkness of Apokolips that Orion was born the son of Tigra and Darkseid. After warring for countless ages the leaders of Apokolips and New Genesis finally managed to find a way broker peace, or at least delay the inevitable, when each side agreed to have the rulers of both planets give the other his son to raise, thus forming a peace treaty known as 'The Pact'. To this end, Darkseid received Highfather Izaya's son, Scott Free (aka Mr. Miracle), while Highfather accepted and raised Orion.This was a questionable choice for Darkseid because of a prophecy regarding Orion's future. It was foretold that Father and Son would meet for a final battle to decide the fate of Apokolips, and that Orion would defeat his father amid the fire-pits of Apokolips deciding the fate of the War between the twin worlds. An event Darkseid was sure would never pass, yet that he unwittingly set into motion.  On New Genesis, Orion's savage nature quickly made him stand out amidst the peaceful natives. The dark fury that boiled within him could barely be contained, and so Orion was given a Mother Box, a sentient computer, to calm his temper. Orion's Mother Box spends much of her time trying to calm the raging soul within Orion. Orion was also taught by the Highfather to respect the Source, a training that has given Orion something to meditate on to placate his anger. He has also made many friends on New Genesis, including Scott Free and Big Barda (both of whom have escaped from a life of cruelty on Apokolips). Most importantly, Orion was befriended by Lightray, the cheery, friendly "beam of light" of New Genesis. Despite the superficial and even temperamental differences, the two are best of friends. It is the teachings and friendships that has steeled Orion's conviction when he goes to defend New Genesis.

 Here are his powers, abilities, skills, and equipment:

  • New God Physiology: Because of Orion's location of creation which is in a realm near an all consuming presence called the Source, it seems as if using the energy from the Source Wall and using their own kind of technology has evolved the New Gods, including Orion, into something of a race of higher level, perfect superhumans. This means they have the same physical image as humans but are far smarter, stronger, faster, more durable, more agile and more flexible.
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: Orion's strength is unmeasured but is said to be the equal of his father, Darkseid. He has been able to defeat Darkseid once in pitched battle and has been able to more than hold his own against such major league heavyweights as Superman and Wonder Woman, meaning he can easily lift/carry massive weights far in excess of 100 tons with very little effort. He is strong enough to be able to knock out his step-brother Kalibak with only one blow.
  • Invulnerability:He's durable enough to have part of a city dropped on him only to shrug it off without suffering any harm or damage. He is nearly impossible to stop on Earth as there is no earthly substance known to exist which can resist or affect his power, though beings of comparable or greater power and barriers gaining their power from the Source Wall have been known to stop him at some point. He's also resilient to most forms of Penetrative damage such as bullets, laser strikes, apokoliptian fire talon bombardment and to a lesser extent; radion. 
  • Immortality: Like all New Gods Orion is functionally Immortal having stopped aging around his early thirties. 
  • Superhuman Stamina: Because of his rage, Orion does not fatigue easily though he is not entirely tireless or unstoppable as he has shown fatigue when fighting against Darkseid.
  • Superhuman Speed: With or without the Astro Force's enhancement or his Astro harness, Orion's is more than capable of incredible feats of locomotion. For brief 'sprints,' his speed is said to be on par with Superman or Wonder Woman.
  • Superhuman Senses: Once when Orion had been blinded he showcased an incredible about of sensory awareness, even as if he were still capable of ocular view. His senses of Sight, Taste, Touch, Smell and Hearing are refined to a degree that is much, much greater than those of any human or mortal being due to being a New God.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Quick enough to zip between apokoliptian laser fire while in fight or flight and sharp enough to snatch bullets out of the air long before they can reach him.
  • Superhuman Agility: In incredibly flight of foot Orion is sharp as well as fast enough to dodge laser fire, catch bullets barehanded run, jump and move faster than the greatest human athlete
  • Healing: When injured, Orion's healing factor helps to quickly recover even healing him when multiple and/or severe injuries ever occur. With the more serious injuries, he can use the Mother Box to heal him while even supplying him with more energy to continue fighting, helping or living.
  • Immunity to Disease: Orion, as a New God, has immunity to all kinds of diseases and stuff as such. Despotellis couldn't infect one of the New Gods because of their biology allowing them immunity to disease.
  • Uncontrollable Rage: Among his biggest weaknesses and arguably his most feared ability. He is a warrior of rage and will stop at nothing to defeat his enemy, even if it means destroying many innocent lives. For him to be restrained, he has to be constantly reminded and on one occasion, been punched to calm him down. Also, because of his warrior trait, he does not know the difference between weakness and defenselessness even though he is highly intelligent because of his race.  
  • Astro Force: Orion also is able to harness an inter dimensional energy called the "Astro Force". Also known as the "wrath of the Source" it is an energy powerful enough to destroy planets, given to him by Highfather of New Genesis and equaled only by the Omega Force under Darkseid's control.  While Orion himself is a conduit for the Astro Force, he can use either the Astro Harness or his wristbands as a valve through which he can project this energy. He uses the Astro Force primarily as a weapon though he has also utilized it for a slew of recreational purposes.
  • Energy Manipulation: This cosmological force has enabled Orion to manipulate most any and all forms of energy for multitudinous purposes. Once showing he could use it to create an energy shield powerful enough to deflect Darkseid's "Omega Effect". It should be noted that Darkseid wanted this to happen, so the end result might not be that accurate. He primarily uses it in conjunction with his Astro Harness to better focus and augment these energies but he himself can utilize it to eviscerate most anything he chooses to turn the force on, the blasts are so potent they can even stagger superman even blasting him halfway across the earth.
  • Matter Manipulation: More than once Orion has used the Astro force to control and alternate matter however he sees fit. he can rearrange his civilian clothing into New Genesis garb, restore his broken Astro Bands as as well as the Astro Harness itself whenever broken and restore his eyesight by physically transplanting those of another's into his own sockets.
  • Power Augmentation: Orion can utilize his astro energies to enhance himself and his other abilities well beyond the natural norm for him.
  • Ailment Suppression: He can use it to suppress pain even pain induced by his brother Kalibak's beta club.
  • Reality Restoration: He can use the Astro Force to undo a twisted reality warp
  • Size Alteration: Can voluntarily increase his size and mass to incredible proportions.
  • Flight: In the rare instances he is without his normal means of transport, the new god can utilize his internal energies for unaided aviation.
  • Immutability Shielding: On more than a few occasions Orion has utilized the Asrto Forces in order to give himself resilience and protection against lethal continence such as the life absorbing properties of the Morrow Box which can drain planets dry. He can also use it to break a stasis field he's trapped in, resist the elemental transmutation by Slig of the deep six.

Equipment: 

  • Astro Harness: He uses a device called the Astro-Harness which he wears like a jet pack. It has many features including the ability to transport Orion around space, a powerful energy blast, an energy shield which absorbs attacks, a life support system and the Astro-Harness' ability to repair itself, as long as a part of it still exists. However, not everyone can use it, as only Orion's personality is fit for the Astro-Harness. Because of it's connection to the Source, only Orion, who is poised perfectly between the peaceful ways of New Genesis and the destructive fury of Apokolips, can properly control it. Anyone else using it may cause damage, as the ability to use the energy blast on it can cause a lot of damage - more damage then Orion could create. However, in time of extreme danger, it can be programmed so that another user can use it. This is a last resort as no other's are truly compatible enough to control it properly for long. The Astro-Harness, like many of the technology of New Genesis, can repair itself. Orion's Mother Box can also attach to the harness, but this is an ability of the Mother Box, not the Astro-Harness.
  • Astro Wristbands: A pair of bracelets that came accommodated with the Astro Harness, Orion also uses these devices as a conduit to better use the Astro Force with more precision than he can by his lonesome. These allow him more detailed control over his energies as well as their guidance.

  • Mother Box: Like a great many New God's Orion utilizes a New Gensisian Mother box for the numerous effects it can derive thanks to both the advanced technology it is composed of and it's unique link to the Source itself. A powerful item of interest coveted by many, the dog of war mainly utilizes its emotional and material manipulation capabilities in order to temper his otherwise incredibly hostile temperament to manageable (Manageable of those he meets anyway) dispositions and to hide his naturally hideous appearance. He can also use the natural medical applications and protective nature of the device to effect the healing of his injuries using it to augment his own healing factor as well as physically empower himself in the event of incomprehensible peril. He also uses it to absorb and redirect energy attacks back at whoever sent them his way as well protection from atomic dissociation.

Battle Breakdown: This is probably one of my best match ups.  Two immensely powerful powerhouses going at it.  One a Titan, the other a New God.  I think this would make a highly intense and epic fight, but it is going to come down to someone making the biggest mistake.

Wow! This is great long read. Thanos' orgin story was so interesting.

I would probably pick Orion. Thanos is tough but Orion has some really interesting equipment. I think the Mother Box would just tip it in Orion's favour in my opinion.

Exodus

Real Name: Bennet du Paris

First Appearance: X-Factor Vol. 1 #92 (July, 1993)

Origin(s) & backstory: Born in the 12th century, Bennet du Paris had always felt different, as if he had a deep hidden power. As an adult he was a Crusader and became best friends with Eobar Garrington, the Black Knight of that era. The two had set out on a quest to find the Tower of Power, the domain of the mythic "Eternal Pharaoh" in Akkaba when Dane Whitman (the 20th century Black Knight) and Sersi had been transported back to the 12th century, Whitman transported into Eobar's body.  Eobar retained control, but felt something was wrong. When he came into contact with Sersi he abandoned the quest, angering Paris. Paris left to find the tower alone. Traveling for hours through violent sandstorms, when he finally collapsed a voice spoke to him, asking him if he was willing to risk everything to become one of the strong. Paris was then tested, and his mutant powers manifested for the first time.  Proving himself strong, he disappeared from the spot. Meanwhile Sersi had awakened Dane's mind and he now had control of his body as Eobar passed on. While searching for Paris, the two were captured by Apocalypse. When they awoke they found Bennet du Paris had been transformed into Exodus, recognizing him as the same Exodus from the 20th century. Apocalypse commanded Exodus to destroy the Black Knight.  When Dane refused to kill Exodus, Sersi intervened, though her attack proved useless. Apocalypse again commanded Exodus to kill Sersi and Dane, though this time Exodus refused. He turned on Apocalypse calling him a "false god". However, Exodus was no match for him. Apocalypse stripped Exodus of his power and sealed him away in a crypt in the Swiss Alps. Six months later, Dane found the crypt in which Exodus was trapped in a coma-like state. He found there was a "curse" preventing Exodus from leaving, yet others were allowed to come and go as they pleased. Dane left guards who had sworn to look after the crypt for generations to come, and he and Sersi returned to their time.  

Here are his powers, abilities, skills, and weapon:

  • Confidence Empowerment: Exodus's mutant abilities are enhanced when others around him or he himself, have faith in him and his abilities.
  • Telekinesis:  Exodus is an Omega-level telekinetic. He is able to telekinetically lift at least 100 tons of weight. His ability to manipulate and control objects and himself include:    
  • Intuitive Aptitude: He can disassemble complex devices explosively (separating every last component, such as screws, nuts, circuit boards, etc.) and, just as quickly, easily assemble complex devices.
  • Force Field: Exodus is able to create protective force shields that could deflect even the most powerful of attacks, makes him nearly invulnerable, as well as crush objects within them.
  • Concussive Blasts: He can project telekinetic energies as powerful blast beams directed from his brain that could apparently affect matter with concussive force.
  • Electromagnetic Blasts: He can manipulate the Earth's electromagnetic spectrum so as to release tremendous amounts of heat to incinerate specific targets.
  • Telekinetic Flight: By levitating himself, he can “fly” at for very long distances and at speeds of Mach 2.
  • Healing/Resurrection/Regeneration: He is capable of bringing people back from the dead and healing others, for example Professor X.  He is also capable of regenerating damaged organs.
  • Superhuman Durability: Exodus's skin, bone, and muscle tissues are augmented to levels that are considerably stronger and harder than human and the tissues are impervious to injury to an extraordinary extent. He is able to withstand extreme temperatures and pressures, virtually all toxins, corrosives, punctures, and concussions without sustaining injury.
  • Immortality: Exodus has lived for hundreds of years without further aging and he can regenerate injured or missing tissue, limbs, organs, and/or brain cells.
  • Teleportation: Exodus is able to psionically transport himself, his clothing, and additional mass from one location to another.
  • Empathy: He has the ability to psionically sense, control, alter/manipulate the feelings, sensations and emotions of other people/animals psionically.
  • Telepathy: Exodus is able to read minds and project his own thoughts into the minds of others. His telepathic powers include:
  • Telepathic Tracking: He is able to detect and track other sentient beings by their unique psionic emanations (thought patterns contained in the psionic portion of the spectrum)
  • Heightened Awareness: Demonstrated the ability to detect a threat to his well-being in his immediate vicinity before they commit the action and possesses enhanced intuition.
  • Telepathic Cloak: He can mask his presence from being detected by others. His abilities can at times go undetected or be counteracted by other more powerful telepaths depending on their level of skill in using their own psi abilities. He can extend these defenses to others around him as well.
  • Mind Control: He is capable of controlling the minds of others only if the target is in his physical presence.
  • Telepathic Illusions: He has the ability to create illusions to make himself seem to be invisible, look like someone else, or make others experience events that are not truly happening.
  • Mind Possession: He has the ability to possess the mind of another, and use that beings body as her own.
  • Mind Alteration: Exodus has the ability to alter the minds of others by force of will, changing their personality partially or entirely.
  • Psionic Shield: He has the ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of his and of others minds.
  • Mental Paralysis: He has the ability to induce temporary mental or physical paralysis.
  • Mental Amnesia: He can erase any awareness of particular memories or cause total amnesia.
  • Psionic Blasts: Exodus can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness and/or turn someone brain-dead.
  • Astral Projection: He can project his astral form from his body onto astral planes or the physical planes. In the physical plane he can only travel in astral form over short distances. In the astral plane, he can mentally create psionic objects and manipulate the aspects of his environment.
  • Absorb Information: He has the ability to quickly process and store information, by mental transference.
  • Intuitive Multilingual: He has the ability to intuitively translating new languages.
  • Psionic Vampirism: Exodus can also 'feed' upon the psionic energies of others. Absorbing and stealing psionic energy from those around him and using it to his own advantage.
  • Exodus can augment his physical strength with his telekinesis. The limits of this are unknown, but it can be assumed that from certain feat that through his telekinetic powers, he can increase his strength to vast superhuman levels -- Exodus is ultimately capable of lifting far in excess of 100 tons.

Martian Manhunter

Real Name: J'onn J'onzz

First Appearance: Detective Comics Vol. 1 #225 (November, 1955)

Origin and backstory: Centuries ago on the planet Mars, the Green Martians known as M'yrnn and Sha'sheen gave birth to twin sons. The bearing of twins was uncommon among the Martian culture, and as such, the first of the twins was named J'onn J'onzz, whose name means "Light to the Light." J'onn's brother, however, was born a mutant, bereft of a Martian's innate ability to communicate telepathically. He was named Ma'alefa'ak, whose name means "Darkness in the Heart."  As an adult, J'onn became a Manhunter (police officer) and married a Martian woman named M'yri'ah. The two established a modest home for themselves beneath the windswept Martian plains and gave birth to a daughter named K'hym.  Years passed, and J'onn's brother Ma'alefa'ak grew to despise everything about Martian culture. In an ambitious endeavor to commit full-scale genocide against his own people, he engineered a contagious virus known as H'ronmeer's Curse. The virus reacted to telepathic energy and carried from one Martian to the next whenever they elected to use their psionic powers. The plague responded to a Martian's innate fear of fire, causing them psychosomatic stress so intense, that their bodies and minds would literally burst into flame. J'onn desperately tried to keep his wife and daughter from using their mental gifts, but they were unable to do so, and thus ultimately contracted the virus. K'hym was the first to experience the symptoms, and M'yri'ah followed soon after. J'onn was anguished as he watched his family burning to death before his very eyes. The trauma of the event shattered his psyche, and nearly drove him mad. Enraged, J'onn J'onzz engaged Ma'alefa'ak in an epic battle.  After Ma'alefa'ak met his apparent death, J'onn J'onzz gets transported to Earth by Dr. Saul Erdel.  Before the scientist had the chance to talk to J'onzz, the teleporter explodes, destroying the laboratory.  J'onn manages to save the scientist's life moments before the man died from his injuries.  J'onn J'onzz then decided to stay on Earth to observe and understand our culture.  One day, he caught the attention of Lieutenant Detective John Jones.  After following and observing him for weeks, J'onn J'onzz witness the detective being murdered by two corrupt cops.  After defeating the cops with relative ease, by using his shape shifting abilities, he took on the appearance and persona of John Jones and vowed to look after the people on Earth as if we were his own family.

Years later, he would play a key role in finding and establishing one of the most iconic and greatest superhero teams of all time, the Justice League, along with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills: 

  • Martian Physiology: Martian Manhunter has been described as "the Swiss Army knife of superheroes." He possesses many of the powers of Superman. Note: Many, if not all of the Martian Manhunter's powers and abilities are common to members of his race, even if demonstration of such abilities has not been explicitly shown in a canonical resource. His powers come from his alien physiology. Born on Mars over a millennium ago, from a super advanced civilization, boasting advanced technology and genetic modifications over its people, the Martian Manhunter would appear to be a genetically modified being with incredible powers stemming from the changes made in his body. Whether this is their natural state or an advanced state given to only a few individuals is unknown. The Martian's physiology would seem to be composed of a complex molecular chain that resembles polymer bonds but with the ability to be altered at will. The Martian Manhunter can change his mass, color, relative shape, imitating even clothing if desired. The biopolymer is extremely flexible, durable, incredibly strong for a biological material and apparently self-sustaining.  It is unknown if the Martian Manhunter actually needs to eat or not but he has been seen consuming food, particularly "Chocos," a brand of cookies.

  • Shape-Shifting, Malleability, Plasticity, and Elongation: Arguably one of the most incredible powers possessed by the Manhunter is the ability to shape-shift. He is able to literally control the molecular structure of his body's biopolymers and manipulate them into any construct he desires, in addition to and including his own body. He can form clothing and weapons with non-moving or non-functioning parts. There does not seem to be any limit to the number of people the Manhunter can imitate and has stood in as a double for many famous people. His ability to imitate people and their mannerisms has stood him in good stead for his disguises. He has recently been seen to shape-shift into the size and shape of a common house fly and to enormous sizes comparable to skyscrapers. He is also able to change colors.

  • Invisibility: The Manhunter can cause the biopolymers in his body to lose their ability to reflect light, rendering the Manhunter invisible to normal light and human sight. With more increased concentration, he can render himself completely invisible along the electromagnetic spectrum, including the infrared and the ultraviolet ranges of the spectrum. This invisibility does not affect every other sense and he could still be detected by touch.

  • Phasing: The Manhunter can phase through solid matter. No explanation of this power has been given, but it might possibly be an aspect of his psionic powers, perhaps shifting his mass into another dimension or out of vibrational phase with other objects in this dimension. Since it is known that he can alter the density of his biopolymers, it may be that he can simply become less substantial than solid matter, thereby decreasing the molecular density of his body by loosening the bonds within the biopolymers, due to - and further demonstrating - the absolute control he has over them.

  • Nigh-Invulnerability: The biomorphic structure of the Manhunter's body allows him to absorb almost all kinetic energies such as high caliber bullets, shrapnel, or flying debris easily. He can harden his biopolymers by rebinding them and increase his durability to the point where he is nearly on par with Superman. Along with his nigh-invulnerability, his shape shifting makes him even more difficult to harm. Hazardous environments practically do not affect the Martian Manhunter. In addition, Martian Manhunter's immune system protects him from all toxins and diseases (meaning he is unable to succumb to any earthly poison, disease or infection).

  • Vast Superhuman Strength: The Martian Manhunter is one of the strongest beings on the planet. The Martian's superhuman strength comes from his Biomorphic structure formed from immensely long and complex molecular chains, augmented with his psionic and telekinetic abilities allowing him to lift incredible weights without these weights crumbling under the stress. The Martian has been seen lifting tankers out of the ocean for vast distances, stalemating powerhouses like Superman, and he has even helped tow the moon and objects as large as the Earth itself together with Superman. J'onn's strength is great enough to the point that he has drawn blood from beings as durable as Kryptonians such as Supergirl by his punches alone. By modifying the density of these biopolymers, the Manhunter can make himself stronger by forcing them into tighter bundles. While at a resting state the limits of his strength are unknown, the Manhunter can lift 100 tons without much effort. He is nearly as strong as the likes of Superman when concentrating his biopolymers to their full capacity. 

  • Superhuman Stamina: J'onn's endurance is just as formidable as his strength and invulnerability. He can operate under extreme conditions for an indeterminate period of time without showing signs of fatigue. The exact range of this power is unknown.

  • Regeneration: The Martian Manhunter has shown amazing regenerative capabilities. So great are they that he has been able to completely regenerate from nothing but his severed hand, regenerate in moments from nothing more than a puddle of green liquid, and in another instance, survived beheading.

  • Flight: The Martian Manhunter flies by manipulation of gravitons (a subatomic particle associated with the force of gravity), manipulation of magnetic fields and control of his absolute molecular movement (a telekinetic effect).  These combine to give him the ability to fly great distances with little fatigue and at great speed. The Manhunter has also been seen flying in space with no difficulty, and in space he can fly at speeds that have allowed him to keep up with the likes of even Superman. J'onn can therefore fly at speeds exceeding the escape velocity of earth (7 miles per second) under his own power.

  • Superhuman Speed: Either through flight or natural movement, the Martian Manhunter can maintain speed and demonstrates reflexes far in excess to that of most metahumans, and for far longer. Like the power of flight, this is accomplished by manipulating the magnetic fields of energy surrounding his body, as well as ambient gravitational particles.  Traditionally, J'onn only uses his superhuman speed while flying. He has admitted that he is not as fast as Superman but this can be argued as he has shown speed feats that are nearly at Superman's level, such as the speed necessary to fly around the earth destroying multiple targets around the planet in seconds, while also managing to save Kyle Rayner in the end. He can process thoughts, move, and react at super speed as well. J'onn has also demonstrated that he is fast enough to comfortably catch bullets and other exceedingly fast projectiles.

  • Extrasensory Input: J'onn possesses nine different senses. One of these senses could account for instances of the Manhunter's perceived precognitive abilities.

  • Longevity: Martians possess naturally longer lifespans than human beings. J'onn has lived for at least one hundred years and is still not at old age.

  • Super Hearing

  • Super Breath: The Martian Manhunter has also demonstrated an increased lung capacity.  The inner valves and chambers inside the Martian Manhunter's air canals are very dense and greatly enhanced, allowing him to, much like Superman, create strong hurricane force winds just by exhaling pressurized air from his lungs in an incredibly strong burst and freeze opponents.  J'onn has also demonstrated the ability to fly through space for extended periods of time.

  • Enhanced Senses

  • Martian Vision: The actual nature of this power seems to vary depending on the reports. It has been seen to be a bolt of force, directed by the Manhunter's eyes causing considerable damage. It has also been seen to cause flammable objects to catch fire. It also grants J'onn the ability to see into other spectrums of light. J'onn can use his Martian vision to see people and objects that are invisible to others. For example, upon their first meeting, J'onn's power allowed him to see past Gypsy's metahuman camouflage ability; other effects are, at present, unknown.

  • X-Ray Vision: J'onn J'onzz described this ability colloquially as ionized particulate matter mapped to a variable density wavepacket. It allows him to see through objects.

  • Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision

  • Telepathy: The Martian Manhunter is the most powerful telepath on the planet, and is one of the strongest telepathic beings in the Universe.  He is able to effect even the Spectre and Doctor Fate with his telepathy. Aquaman has stated that Martian Manhunter's telepathy exceeds even the telepathy of other members of the Martian race. He said that with J'onn's great telepathic power his own telepathy just "pings" off of him while when Aquaman was in the presence of J'onn's brother, Ma'alefa'ak, there was no such effect. J'onn is capable of linking the minds of all superheroes at once from a distance of the moon to all corners of the earth. He is also capable of reading the minds of all inhabitants of earth at once. His telepathic abilities also allow him to create realistic illusions; telepathically trace and locate people; shut down people's minds; brain blast; mental shield; influence thoughts; mind control people; manipulate memory; astral projection; possession; induce sleep; reprogram or reorder minds; and transfer information directly into people's brains. The Martian Manhunter's mind control capabilities have allowed him to mind control the Joker and make him temporarily sane, as well as mind controlling several White Martians at once. He is also capable of mentally shielding those around him from telepathic assault. His own mental defenses are so strong that he is able to telepathically shield himself from the combined might of several White Martians and from the Mageddon machinery.

  • Mind Control: The Martian Manhunter can also control other beings mind's. Insane minds seem to be the only minds he has some trouble controlling.

  • Telepathic Relay: Otherwise known as a telepathic link. As a Class 3 telepath, the Manhunter is able to use his telepathic prowess as a relay station for a group of minds, who can then "speak" to each other through him. This relaying ability seems to be limited to the same range as the Manhunter's normal telepathic range.

  • Telepathic Assault: The Martian Manhunter can also use his telepathic abilities in an offensive manner. He has the ability to cause mental shutdown in a target using his psionic powers. The Manhunter does not use this power often due to the invasive nature and harshness of such a telepathic attack.

  • Thought Sensing: The Manhunter can use the mental signature of a being to track it, and can detect life forms by their empathic as well as telepathic signatures. He can detect whether a being is intelligent or not, and can communicate with it empathically if it does not have a communication-driven frame of reference with which normal telepathy may function. He can also detect various states of mind from anywhere in the world.

  • Telekinesis: Presumably a side effect of his Martian vision is telekinesis. He seems to keep this ability in reserve, as he does some of his other powers. J'onn is capable of controlling / manipulating; move; push; cut out; attack; and levitate objects even at the subatomic level. J'onn can manipulate atoms, subatomic particles, and cells perfectly. J'onn can fire extremely powerful Telekinetic Blasts, causing others to telekinetically explode and create a telekinetic shield. J'onn has only demonstrated this power a select few times.

  • Meditation: Martians enter a meditative state as a form of sleep.

  • Sonic Scream: J'onn has on occasion demonstrated the capability to emit a devastating sonic scream.

  • Matter Absorption: J'onn has the ability to absorb matter and add it to his own mass, he once used this ability to grow to the size of the gigantic Antares, and in another occasion to enhance his regenerative abilities.

  • Genius Level Intellect: The Martian Manhunter possesses highly advanced reasoning and logic capabilities, and uses them to great effect.  Despero once claimed that Ted Kord's mind (IQ 192) was second, only to that J'onn J'onzz.  The Martian Manhunter's particularly astute reasoning capabilities and long-term association with Earth's global population gives him an edge in dealing with humans of diverse governments, cultures and religions. As a result, in the northern hemisphere of Earth, the Manhunter is one of many costumed adventurers battling against entropy, yet in the southern hemisphere, he is more well-known than even Superman.

Battle Breakdown: This is probably one of my most intriguing match ups of all time.  We have an Omega-Level Mutant going up against probably, if not, arguably, the most dangerous member of the Justice League.  This would make a hell of a telepathic battle.  However, IMO this fight is also going to come down to versatility and as far as I am concerned, Mr. J'onn J'onzz has plenty of that.  So for this fight I am going to give it Martian Manhunter.

I was thinking that his name resembled John Jones before reading about the detective, turns out it means something in Martian. I also like that "Investigation" is added as a skill.

I'll go with J'onzz because he seems to be superior in speed, not only for his body but mind as well.

I'm glad you enjoyed my piece on him.  IMO, Martian Manhunter is one of the greatest superheroes of all time.  

As for the investigation skill, MM is among the best detectives in the DC Universe.  As a matter of fact, according the GOAT detective himself, Batman, Martian Manhunter is an amalgam of Superman and the Dark Knight himself.

King Hyperion

Real Name: Unknown, took the name of Mark Milton

First Appearance: Exiles Vol. 1 #38 (February, 2004)

Backstory: When the madman known as Hyperion decided to take control over the planet Earth by force, Earth's heroes and military forces opposed him. Hyperion, however, proved to be too much for any of them to handle, all hope began to dwindle as Humanity watched as their Heroes died fighting Hyperion one-on-one or in groups. According to his own anecdotal accounting, even the mightiest of heroes such as Thor, Hercules, and even Galactus perished at the hands of this madman. When it was all said and done Hyperion stood triumphant over Humanity and proclaimed himself God-Emperor of Earth.  But his victory did not last long, deciding they would rather die than serve as Hyperion's slaves the leaders of men ignited a nuclear holocaust in the hope to kill Hyperion. Ironically, the nuclear holocaust ended up wiping out every living thing on the planet except for Hyperion, leaving him the God-Emperor of nothing more than a radioactive dustball. For years Hyperion remained all alone on the remains of his homeworld until one day fortune smiled upon him. A sixteen year-old version of Storm from Earth-23895 perished during an incident involving the Bruce Banner of another reality, needing a replacement the Timebreakers pulled Hyperion out of Earth-4023 and gave him Storm's spot on the dimension-hopping team of superhumans called Weapon X.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

  • Solar Energy Absorption: Every single cell in Hyperion's body absorbs energy from the sun. Even if his body has been completely dismembered his cells will continue to absorb and store solar energy allowing him to recover after almost any injury or major expenditures of energy. It's not clear why, but King Hyperion seems to be significantly stronger than other Hyperion counterparts (possibly due to his insanity) with no apparent weaknesses other than Argonite radiation, a weakness that is shared by almost every version of Hyperion in existence.
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: King Hyperion possesses perhaps limitless superhuman-strength. He can lift weights far surpassing 100 tons with no effort whatsoever, and has physically overpowered the absolute strongest of heroes, including the Hulk, Hercules, and Thor.
  • Superhuman Speed: Hyperion can run and move at speeds that are beyond the physical capabilities of even the finest human athlete.
  • Flight: Hyperion has the ability to levitate himself and fly through the air at tremendous speeds by harnessing and manipulating anti-gravitons. It is unknown how fast he is at his peak.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Hyperion's highly advanced musculature produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a human being. It is unknown how long he can exert himself physically at peak capacity before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.
  • Invulnerability: Hyperion's body is virtually invulnerable and more resistant to physical injury than the body of a human. Hyperion can withstand high calibre machine gun shells, falls from tremendous heights, exposure to temperature and pressure extremes, great impact forces, and powerful energy beams without sustaining injury. He was once hit by Mimic's optic blasts at point-blank range and suffered no injury. Hyperion is also able to physically withstand the rigours of space without any special clothing. This also ties to his healing powers instantaneously.
  • Superhuman Agility: Hyperion's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Hyperion's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are superior to those of the finest human athlete.
  • Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Hyperion is capable of willfully manipulating great amounts of cosmic energy for a few physical purposes:
  • Atomic Vision: Hyperion is capable of firing beams of highly intensive heat from his eyes that's often referred to as Atomic Vision, as well as several others. The full limits of his Atomic Vision isn't known, but it is known that he can generate up to at least 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his body's great physical resistance to injury, it is possible for him to be hurt. If injured, Hyperion can purposely channel cosmic energy to repair damaged bodily tissues much faster and more extensively than a human being is capable of. Hyperion's healing powers also dramatically decrease his ageing to an unknown degree. It isn't known if he ages at an exceptionally slow pace or if he has stopped ageing altogether. He is also immune to the effects of all known Earthly diseases and infections. One extreme instance of his healing powers was when he was seemingly killed by Gambit.  After being brought back to the Crystal Palace, however, Hyperion slowly regenerated the damaged and severed pieces of his body back together, making a full recovery.

 

Captain Atom

Real Name: Nathaniel Christopher Adam

First Appearance: Captain Atom Vol. 2 #1 (March, 1987)

Origin: Nathaniel Adam was a United States Air Force officer during the Vietnam War era. He was framed for a crime he didn't commit and sentenced to death under the watch of Col. Wade Eiling in 1968. To avoid execution, he was invited to participate in a military experiment with little chance of survival, with the promise of a presidential pardon should he survive. The experiment involved testing the hull of a crashed alien ship's durability by exploding a super nuclear bomb under it while Adam was in the ship. Against the odds, Adam survived, the alien metal melding with his body, while the excess energy threw him forward in time nearly twenty years.  Regaining coherence in 1986, Adam found himself a man out of his time and back in the hands of Eiling, now a general and the second husband of Adam's now-deceased wife. Everyone had assumed Adam had died during the experiment, so his presidential pardon was never issued and the current government refused to acknowledge the previous administration's promise. Seizing the opportunity at hand, the government used the outstanding murder/treason charges against Adam to blackmail him into being a government-controlled superhero codenamed Captain Atom. The government gave him a false origin for use in public and assigned him the alias of Cameron Scott, an Air Force intelligence operative. It was during this time he met the superpowered terrorist Plastique, who would become a recurring part of Adam's life.  As Captain Atom, Adam served under Eiling reluctantly until he succeeded in clearing his name. Eventually, Atom rebelled against Eiling, resigned from the Air Force and found some fulfilment as an actual superhero. Captain Atom joined the Justice League at the request of the U.S. government, eventually serving as leader of Justice League Europe. During his career, he had a brief romance with Catherine Cobert, developed a friendly rivalry with Firestorm, become involved with and eventually married to Plastique (ironically, a one-time Firestorm foe), battled Major Force (his would-be successor), learned basic heroics from Batman when he briefly lost access to the Quantum Field, and commanded the metahuman forces during the alien invasion of the Alliance.

Here are his powers, abilities, and skills:

  • Dilustel Armor: Captain Atom's metallic shell, or "skin," is composed of a portion of the alien being known as Silver Shield, and is called Dilustel. Pieces of the alien's metal body were used in the Captain Atom Project, Project Major Force and similar projects thereafter. Atom is able to coat himself with the metal, either partially or totally. Atom's symbiosis with the metal is such that even when partially armored, he is able to access the Quantum Field.
  • Chronokinesis: Captain Atom has shown time-traveling capabilities without quantum jumping and can travel ahead in time using concentration. The process is exhausting and the period he can interact in the future appears to be limited to a few minutes before he returns to the present.
  • Atomic Transmutation: Captain Atom has demonstrated atomic transmutation powers similar to Firestorm, as he was able to turn both Maul and Engineer back to their human forms and once turned Green Arrow's quivers into butterflies. This power can be used instinctively or through concentration.
  • Energy Absorption: There is almost no form of energy that Captain Atom is unable to absorb and this ability is second to none in the DC Universe. With proper control, concentration, and regulation of his energy absorption rate, theoretically, he can absorb infinite amounts of energy (according to Heinrich Megala) to avoid quantum jumping through time. But, he hasn't fully mastered this, and has been catapulted through time on numerous occasions after absorbing too much energy at once.
  • Energy Projection and Manipulation: He is able to emit blasts of any type of quantum-based energy from any part of his body at once, but normally prefers using his hands for ease of aim. He is able to control the magnitude and wavelength of his energy blasts at will. He can stun his opponents with his blasts at the lowest setting. But, at higher settings, he's shown to blow up aircraft (ranging from fighter jets to large spaceships, such as Kobra's Ark), tanks, stagger powerful super-powered beings, incinerate a human being down to their bones or completely vaporize them, detonate atomic explosions, and the list goes on. At one point, the force from high-powered blasts have started earthquakes (while Atom was fighting another being underground). With the Quantum Field, he is able to generate and manipulate forces along the Unified Field (fundamental forces). In the same way, he learned to access weak force energy, manipulate gravitational forces, and electromagnetism (has generated pure light from his body, and manipulated electromagnetism to shut of the Ray's powers with a simple blast of energy). The Quantum Field also grants his Quantum blasts with the effect of intense heat, and he has shown to be able to melt down dense metallic substances and heat things up with what he likes to call 'Quantum heat.' At one point, he applied his energy manipulation to manipulate one's brain waves in order to put them to sleep. Captain Atom is also able to generate energy shields (strong enough to stop things as powerful as entropy) around himself, and others. He was once able to transmute the force of an energy blast, as well.
  • Flight: Ability to fly at hyper-sonic speeds or greater in an atmosphere and at sub-light speeds (more than half the speed of light) in interstellar space and/or when traveling interstellar distances. However, Captain Atom claims that he can hit light speed if he wants to.
  • Immortality: Due to being composed of raw quantum energy Adam is a functionally immortal being. He does not need to eat, sleep, breath or require bed rest in order to keep active or stay healthy; for all intents and purposes Captain Atom effectively lasts forever.
  • Invulnerability: Dilustel metal "skin" has a symbiotic relationship with Captain Atom's body and is virtually indestructible, highly resistant to various degrees of damage from energy, heat, lasers, missiles, warheads, the interior of a black hole, etc. In certain situations, his skin can be breached, most notably by X-ionized weapons or weapons that are made to cut/punch through any surface (Crimson Avenger's enchanted bullets, Zealot's swords, Warblade, etc.). Against physical force, he's shown to withstand punishment from some of the strongest beings (Wonder Woman, Major Force, Mr. Majestic, Ultraa, Apollo, Orion, Maul, Power Girl, etc.) without having his skin breached or even showing any discomfort at all. His invulnerability extends to being impervious to certain magical spells and attacks.
  • Matter Generation: Captain Atom can also create matter in the same manner he creates energy. In the same way, he can absorb and manipulate matter at a basic level.
  • Matter Manipulation: He has shown to manipulate cohesive force to make 'protomatter.' On occasion, he has shown to transmute solid objects much like Firestorm, such as transmuting Green Arrow's arrows into butterflies, turning a powerful high-tech energy gun into a toy spaceship and turning Maul and Engineer back into their human forms. It appears as if this ability is used on instinct or with some level of concentration, but Atom claims that he isn't very good at manipulating matter. At one point, he was able to create a universe within the Quantum Field and characters such as Superman, Flash, Firestorm, and even his own Spectre, but this was due to the fact that he was operating above normal levels within the source of his powers.
  • Regeneration: Over time if Atom's armored skin were to be ruptured or damaged he would recover at an accelerated rate.
  • Self-Sustenance: The energies of the Quantum Field sustain Captain Atom.
  • Vast Superhuman Strength: The limits of Captain Atom's physical strength are unknown, but based on his showings, he is well in excess of Class 100 (most likely capable of easily lifting/carrying more than 500,000 tons) and is well within Superman's strength class, or possibly beyond. To date, he's been able to physically fight and/or inflict damage on beings such as Wonder Woman, Mr. Majestic, Ultraa, Major Force, Superman (who was brainwashed at the time), and the like. It was stated that he is strong enough to move around mountains. He can increase his strength to phenomenal levels using the quantum field.
  • Superhuman Stamina: When covered in his Dilustel skin, he has no need for food, sleep, or oxygen. He can survive in outer space and doesn't need to breathe. His endurance is increased to superhuman levels, and he can perform strenuous activity for a long and undefined period.
  • Superhuman Speed
  • Superhuman Reflexes:  Captain Atom is able to think, move and react at superhuman speeds, significantly greater than humans. Dr. Heinrich Megala revealed that Captain Atom was once able to move faster than he could think during his experimental testing of Captain Atom's powers. He has shown to react fast enough to stop bullets with his hand, and move fast enough to intercept gunfire after it's already left the barrel. He has also displayed some level of superhuman speed during his battle with Ultraa.
  • Techno-Interface: He has also shown the ability to telepathically interface with computer networks.
  • Anti-Magic: An effect of Captain Atom's Dilustel coating coupled with his exposure to the Quantum Field affords Nathaniel not only Immunity to magical powers and spell craft.  But also allows him to outright negate the effects of it in general through their use.
  • Self-Power Augmentation: At times, he can use the quantum field to enhance his physical prowess to even greater levels such as enhancing and increasing his listening range, augmenting his already impressive levels of strength or even increasing his flight speed.
  • Quantum Field Manipulation: Captain Atom's metal skin is tied into the Quantum Field, which enables him to absorb and manipulate infinite amounts of energy; energy which can be utilized for an infinite amount of purposes which are solely limited by his willpower and imagination. Reinforcing the fact when he realized that the Quantum field is under his complete and total control. E.I, creating and destroying a replica of Earth complete with life and its most powerful heroes out of nothing; such as Superman, The Flash, Firestorm and even his own Spectre. Though he has only done this once, subconsciously limiting himself to a set amount of power ever since. Nathaniel's ability harness energy is insurmountable, manipulating it for a variety of effects ranging from absorbing, changing, metabolizing, even shutting down other energy users powers or shaping it into whatever he needs. Like force fields, explosive bombs or a simple blast from the hands or eyes. Either firing it from anywhere on his body or releasing it as an AOE wave either by will or upon detonation.

Battle Breakdown: We have a crazy ass battle on our hands here folks.  We have an evil and arguably the most powerful iteration of Hyperion going up against one of the top 3 most powerful superheroes in the entire DC Universe.  The fight will shake the planet they are on and the heavens as well.  IMO this is going to be an epic fight from beginning to end.
