Gaming pet peeves

What are your gaming pet peeves?

I'll start off with one I have. I hate it when racing games make it so that water droplets stick to a virtual camera lens / glass pane when in 3rd person view outside the car. When inside the car you can turn on wipers but outside the car there's no way to wipe the water to get a clear view.

When the gaming press hype up a mediorcre fighting game and give it a high score, and then you play the game, realise it sucks, and then find out later, that the previous entry of the fighting game, was way, way better.

Like which one?

Samurai Shodown, for example? Nostalgic pixel-art does not translate well to 3D models, it makes it look cheaper in some ways. Not every time, but a lot of the times.

An example of that would be Risk Of Rain and its sequel, the first one is way better in my opinion, at least from a graphics perspective.

Like for example SoulCalibur 2. The first SoulCalibur game got a perfect 10 out 10, and had really good gameplay. Even I was surprised that namco was able to make a game that good, because namco fighting games were always known, to be a bit basic and gimmicky.

The sequel SoulCalibur 2, had horrible sidestepping, bad hitboxes, watered down gameplay, tons of missing moves, bad janky looking animations, and to cover it up, they put in Link, Heihachi and Spawn, and a ton of false advertising hype, to cover up the crap they did to the game. Even one of the Japanese head devs of the game admitted in an interview, that SoulCalibur 2 is a watered down basic version of SoulCalibur 1, but it was a business decision to deliberately water down the game, to make it accessible for Tekken players and noobs. And from that game, the SoulCalibur series literally down spiraled from there. That is why SoulCalibur 2, is known and called as the cash grab game.

It sucks that they did things right for the first time with SoulCalibur 1, and then with SoulCalibur 2, had to deliberately water down the game to appeal to all sorts of other gamers. Its a good thing that fans who wanted quality complained about it, and I'm glad that Japanese dev came out and admitted the truth about SoulCalibur 2, because alot of gamers had a suspicion that namco would go that silly route.

I would have linked you to the article where they interviewed the Japanese game dev, but it apparently is not on the internet yet. I read it in a Japanese game magazine years ago. I can't remember the name of the game magazine though.

That's cool.

By the way, was it translated or in English, or do you know Japanese?

When you hold back to block, or hold a button to block an opponents attacks, and then out of nowhere, your character pops out of blocking, and eats the opponents combo or attack. I know that alot of gamers over the years, have experienced this annoying problem too many times.  Sigh.

This one is really obvious, but someone needs to mention it. Long loading times. It has seriously killed my enjoyment for quite a few games. Some games are infamous for this, like Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). However, my worst experience has to be with the PlayStation and original PC release of Mega Man X3. The loading times were absolute garbage! It would take way too long to read your memory card! And it also takes like 5 minutes for the opening FMV to play! Why? Other PS1 games were so much faster! Yes, I know CDs are slower than cartridges, but even older, weaker CD hardware was able to load much faster!

Thankfully, the Mega Man X Collection for PS2 really shortened the load times to make them a non-issue.

The Saturn version was even worse than the PS1 version already was when it came to loading times.
