joestacos2
i know most people here have a decent - very great gaming computer with a good GPUmy question is that: what GPUs do you guys recommend that can work very goodnote: at the most i want to play GTA IV on high, I don't need it to be the most recent high end GPU, i just want one that can do what i need and be a few years oldthe reason i chose GTA IV is that games before it (TF2, Counter Strike, etc.) can be easily put on ultra with no problem Thanks in advance -Joestacos2

joestacos2
are GPUs versatile (I.e. can be put into a comp of someone's choice)
Icureditwithmybrain
are GPUs versatile (I.e. can be put into a comp of someone's choice)For the most part yes. All current graphics cards use the pci-e motherboard slot. If the gpu can fit in the case and the power supply has the correct connectors and can provide enough amps on the 12 volt rail. skillsthatkills4832
Sorta unrelated I guess, but do I need a $320 graphics card? How powerful is a GTX 960? I mostly wanna run Skyrim with tons of mods and play Fallout 4 with mods as well. Will a $200 GPU give me graphics/ performance similar to a PS4? I mostly wanna run Skyrim with tons of mods and play Fallout 4 with mods as well. Will a $200 GPU give me graphics/ performance similar to a PS4? At 1080p a GTX 960 is adequate for vanilla Skyrim. Regarding Skyrim with mods, it really depends on what kind of mods and how many mods you plan on running. The more mods you add the more demanding the game will be, its possible to bring even the most powerful graphics card down to its knees if you add enough mods. So, if you plan on adding a lot of graphics mods you're going to want to buy the most powerful graphics card you can afford. The GTX 960 should give you better graphics / performance then a PS4, that is if the rest of your computer (Ram & Cpu) is up to par. Regarding Fallout 4 I dont know since the system requirements has not yet been released, that being said there is speculation that Fallout 4 will be playable with a GTX 660. You're just gonna have to wait to know for sure. Here are some benchmarks that should give you an idea of what the GTX 960 is capable of:
Wanglord
Rule of thumb generally says that if you're serious about playing the newest releases on a PC with Nvidia cards, never go below the "70". 670, 770, 970 etc. It's a very big step up from the 760/960 card, which are entry level gaming GPUs, at a very affordable cost. IE: I bought a 4GB 770 GTX and ran Witcher 3 on a mix max and medium settings with any problem, whereas a mate of mine had some issues getting a decent framerate on a 760. Honestly, if you want run Fallout 4 WITH mods at decent settings, getting anything below a 970 (or AMD equivalent) would probably not be advisable. That being said, the GPU is the easiest component to swap in a PC, so if you don't have the money right now for a 970, a 960 should be enough if you don't care about getting 60 FPS and/or running at high/ultra settings. If you just want console comparable graphics and performance, you could always play on a typewriter.
KeSwickk
sorry to bump this thread, but i'm looking for a good GPU like OP suggested, but instead of GTA IV, my game(s) that I would be playing is GTA V and WWE2K16 on Ultra with some elbow room thanks in advance
Veera
The 1050ti is slightly more powerful than the 960 and tends to run cheaper from what i've seen
MurderBobby
I like to use this guide when GPU shopping. Shows GPU benchmarks and prices. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html PC gamers also frequently recommend looking around PC Part Picker, a website used for looking at computer parts from all popular online stores in one place. They have a bunch of information on GPUs. http://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/ Edited April 13, 2017 by MurderBobby

Check Newegg. com They might be expensive, but they have been known, to be ridiculously trustworthy, when it comes to PC parts, and game fight sticks etc. Edited November 28, 2018 by musicboy
